What seems like decades ago someone bought an aftermarket "steelie", that had been sized for M12 studs, rather than the M14's that Maverick uses. The holes were just barely large enough, but the M14 lugnuts would not engage the conical taper.I'm not 100% sure but was thinking the different wheels available could need different style lug nuts based on the seating needed. I seem to recall numerous threads/post from years past on this forum where that was pointed out. Just a thought to consider.
You're right, some wheels are designed for cone seat and others are designed for acorn seat.
