Just to be clear.
You bought the black Gorilla lug nuts online?
Then you handed them to Ford when you had your tires rotated as a replacement for the OEM original chrome ones. Then Ford gave you your original lug nuts back to you?

I'm not 100% sure but was thinking the different wheels available could need different style lug nuts based on the seating needed. I seem to recall numerous threads/post from years past on this forum where that was pointed out. Just a thought to consider.

What seems like decades ago someone bought an aftermarket "steelie", that had been sized for M12 studs, rather than the M14's that Maverick uses. The holes were just barely large enough, but the M14 lugnuts would not engage the conical taper.

I had a similar situation when using Bronco Sport wheels, which use a M12. There was a lot less engagement of the lugnut taper than the OEM Maverick wheels had. Not enough to fall off, but noticeably less.

You're right, some wheels are designed for cone seat and others are designed for acorn seat. You need to get the correct lug nuts to match your wheels
