Is it true that the oem chrome lugnuts are 2 piece? And that they tend to swell causing difficulties to remove?

Yes Just Google ford lug nut corrosion, they swell it's kinda ford's thing...

Especially in the northern and rust belt .

I figured that any black lug nuts that people commented were rusting likely had the finish damaged and were rusting as a result of that.

I was actually thinking of using a Swiffer cloth but didn’t have any and figured they may be too thick.

Used dryers sheets were thin enough and were good for torquing several lug nuts before needing replacing. Fresh sheets work as well but then you have to wipe off the waxy residue they leave behind. 😂

Weird. I've only seen chrome lugs come with the BAP. Are they still the two piece design?

Has anyone found a lug that is matte black to replace the chrome lugs that come with the truck?

I have a '23 Hybrid Mav, Alto Blue with the black out package. Any ideas on where to find a matte finished lug to match these rims? Not a fan of chrome.

Thanks in advance!

That is weird. I guess I got lucky with the black ones that came with my truck. They do match perfectly and it would bother me if they didn't match. Unfortunately I didn't inspect them when they were off during the rotation but I can safely assume that they are the 2 piece lug nut.

Update:

Installed and manually torqued yesterday. I placed a folded dryer sheet inside the socket to protect the finish while torquing.

No chipped paint. Fingers crossed no rust will update once the rainy season starts.

This is timely....Just today I was sitting eating lunch looking out at my Mav thinking....I should switch to black lug nuts, it would look better.....

Along with suggestions here, I'll see what I can dig up..... I wonder if all the (aluminum) wheel types use the same spec lug nut? The seat spec is the critical part.
OK, so my wheels (optional 17" AT wheels) are indeed 60 degree cone seat, so I found a set of black Gorilla lugs at CJ Pony Parts (a Mustang vendor) for $66, so I'm going this route.

I'll post pix when they come in, before/after.

Would really like to get to the bottom of this. The Ford GT is the only vehicle to get them from the factory. Maverick is spec'd with same lugs as other platforms that use the same size. Ford does sell the black lugs through their performance parts division, but chances of a set of them ending up in Mexico on the Maverick assembly line and installed there are virtually zero. Especially being the only Maverick to get them. They had to have been swapped at some point. At the rail yard? Dealer? Wheels stolen and someone had these on the shelf for replacements? Lost lugs during PDI and tech ordered the wrong lugs to replace them? Person who originally ordered the truck had the dealer swap them and then didn't take the truck? Could be anything.

Would be great to pull one off and take pics of the markings, if any.

Wow. It's a big conspiracy 😂😆😂. I ordered the truck and I picked it up the day after the hauler dropped it off. The lug nuts match perfectly so I guess it's a mystery. I would be hard to believe that mine is the only one with matching lugs from the factory. Lariat luxury hybrid black appearance package unicorn 🦄 😂

Take a look at how many people are in this thread looking for them. Look at pictures online. They don't exist. You definitely have a unicorn.
