Your dealership doesn't give a complimentary first oil change? Many do. My dealership does. So as an employee, I actually got paid to change my own oil😅
Those freebees must be a southern thing. I have never gotten a complementary anything at a dealer. I even had to pay for a cup of coffee from their coffee machine when I was waiting for delivery.

Yep, Walmart and Amazon are always about the same and the cheapest. I have a NAPA store less than a mile from my house. They surely didn't get the memo about the oil sale 😂. They are $35 for a 5 quart container of Mobil 1.
Oh, yes...lure you in on the 5 quart bottle on sale...then slay you with the needed extra 1 quart bottle not on sale and sell to you at full pop...they do it every time.

Wow! We provide free coffee and bottled water. Sometimes they even make popcorn in the popcorn machine and provide it .

If the "complimentary first oil change" is done with the wrong oil...just how complimentary is it?? I am not even going to bother getting a free oil change only to know I would have to pay extra for them to bump it to full synth....
I guess. But you change oil early anyway. And one oil change even with synthetic blend won't hurt in the long or short term. But I understand everyone has to do what's comfortable for them.

I'm in California and my dealer gave me a free first oil change.

Since I have my hybrid, I am now rolling up on 5K and even though the 'oil life monitor' says I have plenty of life left in the oil, I will feel better changing it myself. I shopped and shopped different stores....Walmart, O'Reilly, AutoZone, Advance....I have opted for NAPA for my oil purchase because when they put the oil on sale, they put ALL the containers of oil on sale....we all know the hybrid takes 5.7 quarts so it is a 5 quart bottle and then a 1 quart bottle.....all the other places put the 5 quart bottle on sale, but will "hose" you for the 1 quart bottle. Just kinda irked me.....also bought a NAPA Proformer filter....all in all, a good deal and you get a little more off with your AAA membership.

Dealer insists on "The Works" package...but in my opinion, it is overpriced and they will put synthetic blend in or charge me even more $$ for demanding full synth...and, yes...I will check the PTU while I am under it tomorrow.

Just thought I would share.
I bought two oil change bundles from Advance Auto. I use the extra 5-quart jug to top off the oil and bring it to the proper level. That jug usually lasts me several oil changes, and it saves me quite a bit of money.

Understood, but the point of my post is places like Advance Auto will put the 5 quart bottle on sale and then stick it to you on the one quart bottle that you need to get the extra .7 quart...smart people such as yourself are looking down the road for the next change or two...but, some don't do that...they will just grab the 1 quart bottle and thus, get ripped off....all I am saying is, NAPA puts ALL of their oil selections on sale...be it 5 quart containers or 1 quart bottles and are competitive with the other usual places.

Got it! Thanks for the clarification.

Scotty C,
I think you missed Darryl's point.
Darryl works at a Ford dealership he does his own oil changes.👍 I'm sure he used the proper oil on his complementary oil change and got paid for it, 👍👍as he stated in his post below.

Being forced to use a portion of a 5-quart jug is possibly the most first-world problem I've ever heard.

I have a partial 5 quart jug of Pennzoil Platinum that I use to top off after I use a 5 quart jug of another brand. OMG what do you think of that?!

My full regimen is after I am done with my oil change, I pour the old oil into the 5+1 bottles and box up the used filter - when I go back to store, I will deposit the used filter in their garbage can out front as I walk in and drop the bottles off for them to dump in their recycling cube. No fuss, no muss....sometimes, I will stop at AutoZone even if I did not buy it from them to drop off the old oil / filter. I know, I know...that's just rude....
Used oil filters are soaked with oil - that should not go to a landfill. Even "drained" filters still contain enough oil to contaminate.
(unless the "garbage can" is specific for oil filters)

I get free coffee and popcorn at my dealer, Sunnyvale Ford but no free oil changes and their "works" package is $190.00 plus $25.00 for full synthetic. I do my own oil changes with Mobile 1.

No, I got it....just, I don't work at the dealership. I will check on the complementary oil change this winter when I don't really feel like crawling under the Maverick in 15 degree weather....

PS: don't beat my Maverick (or me) with a stick.....lol
