Since I have my hybrid, I am now rolling up on 5K and even though the 'oil life monitor' says I have plenty of life left in the oil, I will feel better changing it myself. I shopped and shopped different stores....Walmart, O'Reilly, AutoZone, Advance....I have opted for NAPA for my oil purchase because when they put the oil on sale, they put ALL the containers of oil on sale....we all know the hybrid takes 5.7 quarts so it is a 5 quart bottle and then a 1 quart bottle.....all the other places put the 5 quart bottle on sale, but will "hose" you for the 1 quart bottle. Just kinda irked me.....also bought a NAPA Proformer filter....all in all, a good deal and you get a little more off with your AAA membership.

Dealer insists on "The Works" package...but in my opinion, it is overpriced and they will put synthetic blend in or charge me even more $$ for demanding full synth...and, yes...I will check the PTU while I am under it tomorrow.

Just thought I would share.

Yes! I hate getting hosed on that extra quart. It seems like every time. How about putting six quarts of oil in one container.

Your dealership doesn't give a complimentary first oil change? Many do. My dealership does. So as an employee, I actually got paid to change my own oil😅

How about buying TWO of the big jugs. Or three. I used to do that. I never bought those overpriced quarts.
At $9-$10 a quart I don’t think so.

Shelf life. Oil expires.
To be honest, Ive never heard of oil going bad if it's in a closed container. If it does, it would take YEARS to degrade. I honestly believe oil has an almost unlimited shelf life if you put the lid back on the container

I used to work at a Napa distribution center and was a counter man.
Not true.
Now obviously I won’t use ten year old oil but if you do a couple of oil changes a year and keep it closed up tight it’s fine.
If a little moisture in the oil gets burned off at engine temps anyway so it’s a non issue.

Closest I found was Costco had a "Six-Pack" on sale (about the same as the 5+1 at NAPA) but since my NAPA store is just down the road and a trip to Costco is a 35 mile planned trip...NAPA for the win.

If the "complimentary first oil change" is done with the wrong oil...just how complimentary is it?? I am not even going to bother getting a free oil change only to know I would have to pay extra for them to bump it to full synth....

I just buy 2 - 5qts first oil change and the next 5 oil changes I have enough to only buy 1 5qt
Always an option, but point of the post is to just advise to check your local NAPA store out (long time fan) for a decent sale.

That's fair. Even with their sale I generally find Walmart to be the cheapest option, around $25 for full synthetic mobil1

My full regimen is after I am done with my oil change, I pour the old oil into the 5+1 bottles and box up the used filter - when I go back to store, I will deposit the used filter in their garbage can out front as I walk in and drop the bottles off for them to dump in their recycling cube. No fuss, no muss....sometimes, I will stop at AutoZone even if I did not buy it from them to drop off the old oil / filter. I know, I know...that's just rude....

Yep, Walmart and Amazon are always about the same and the cheapest. I have a NAPA store less than a mile from my house. They surely didn't get the memo about the oil sale 😂. They are $35 for a 5 quart container of Mobil 1.
