My truck is now in production and as my highly anticipated pickup day begins to loom more closely, I'm thinking of the things I need to do on that day to make the pickup and payment process go as smoothly as possible. I'm a big fan of checklists. What would you have on your checklist? What hiccups did you encounter that your could have been better prepared for?

**Updated Checklist**

Before Car Arrives to Dealer
  1. Add car to insurance
  2. Contact dealer for
    1. Request no dealer add-ons. E.g. paint or upholstery protection.
    2. Request no advertising decals be placed on the truck.
    3. Request no front plate bracket
    4. Request all firmware updates be installed (radio and remote start)
    5. Request no wash if their wash isn’t brushless
  3. Financing
    1. Check third party financing options.
    2. Possibly get pre-approved for Ford credit
  4. Sell current vehicle private party or have offer from Carmax/Carvana for negotiation at dealer.
Day of Pickup
  1. Check Vehicle for Damage or Flaws. See Ford Pre-Owned Checklist
    1. Scratches on interior panels
    2. Upholstery for stains
    3. Glass imperfections and optical quality
    4. Fluid leaks
    5. Under chassis for scrapes, esp jacking points
  2. Check vehicle VIN against assigned VIN from Ford
  3. Check Apple Carplay or Android Auto
  4. Maverick specific inspection items
    1. Confirm all chips/hardware is factory installed
    2. Confirm whip antenna is installed
    3. Check sound barriers between front doors and front fenders
    4. Check tailgate for level
  5. Check for accessories
    1. Check for complimentary FITS accessory kit (from parts dept)
    2. Check for 12V flex bed power accessory cable (glove box)
    3. Check for plastic fuel funnel
    4. Check for jack and spare tire
    5. Check for owners manual

In Financing Office
  1. Check purchase price against DORA.
  2. Have Farm Bureau $500 incentive applied
  3. Request Smart Vincent financing terms.
  4. Ask if any additional incentives are available through Smart Vincent
  5. Ask for free oil changes

5. Don't install front license plate holder.

(somewhere in this forum, someone requested no dealer stickers and they installed the front plate holder -- with dealer advertising -- using two screws into the bumper cover)

Saw somewhere that Fits kit is shipped separately.

Depending on how anal you are about paint condition, maybe request they dont wash it.

6. Do a little online research into dealer warranties, wheel protection packages, etc. (if you haven't already), so you can make an informed decision regarding these add-ons which will likely be pushed in the finance room.

The one thing I'm glad I did was get pre-approved for Ford financing before going in. They tried to switch me to a 3rd party at a slightly higher rate. Noped out on that.

Check that they didn't not install any chips. I know that was something getting thrown around... You don't wanna take your truck only to find out the never installed the chips that will turn on the heated seats or whatever

If you've got a hybrid, there should be a plastic fuel funnel, maybe stored with the jack.

I showed the sales man my email promising me a FITS accessory kit; he took it to the parts department and brought back the box I was promised.

Make sure the whip antenna is installed.

I paired my phone with Android Auto on my test drive; the salesman installed the FordPass app and showed me its features.

I didn't have issues with my transaction, but some things I learned along the way...neither of these are for debate of if it is right or not, just laying out potential things that could be encountered.

1) They "should" honor price protection and rates -- but as you've seen on here that's not always the case.

2) If you don't trade-in, they may try to sell at MSRP and not honor an advertised dealer discount (i.e. invoice pricing). They're counting on trade-ins to recover some of what they could get at MSRP or ADM with today's market -- and also to make up for low inventory. Typically they will offer a trade that when combined with the tax savings, it will match the 3rd party offers you receive from Carvana, Vroom etc.

3) They may refuse to sell to you if trying to finance with a 3rd party. They need you to use Ford Credit, again for any extra revenue on lower margin Mavs...but also, just as the consumers have been waiting 6-9 months for delivery -- the salesman that live off commission need any extra kickback they can get. TBH, I don't see why most people wouldn't do Ford Credit since their protected rates are very good.

Add the vehicle to your insurance policy before going to dealer.

That's not a hybrid-specific thing. It's for the Easy Fuel® Capless Fuel Filler, a Ford standard feature for over a decade now. So all new Fords should come with it.

Verify Ford Pass points are applied properly
Verify sound barriers between front doors and front fenders
Check for owners manual in glove box
Ask for free oil changes.
If you purchased all weather mats yourself, ask if they will credit back the stock front carpet mats
