I ordered mine from Capital Ford in Charlotte in October of 2021. Rolled over to the MY2023 last September. Truck is now built and awaiting shipment. I hope I get it by the end of May.
I might order from them when 2024 banks open if I am still waiting and haven't gotten one of the 23's yet. I know capitol Ford sells a ton of " Buy back " vehicles, matter of fact I think they are the only dealer in this area that sells them, so they might have some inside connections with Ford and possibly more allocations. I placed my orders with crossroads in Monroe and mark ficken in south charlotte.... Ordered two F250 superdutys around Christmas time in 2021, one at MF and one at crossroads, duplicate trucks, and both ended up getting built and delivered to me by late April of 2022. And Superduty trucks were just as in demand and hard to find as Mavericks at that time, so I placed the maverick ordered with them thinking I would have similar success.

For the record... When the Superdutys came in, I bought the first one that actually showed up ( both were shipped at the same time, but the second one didn't actually show up at that dealer till 2 weeks after the first one showed up). I found a guy in Indiana that needed a Superduty and didn't want to pay the mark up's, so I bought the second one and immediately resold it to him while at the dealer for my actual cost in the truck plus $1500. He got a great deal ( dealers were getting 10 grand over sticker at the time ) and I got a little money for my troubles and all was right with the world!

OP which dealer in Charlotte did you go through? Let me guess Crossroads Ford? Just curious as I’m in Charlotte and ordered from these guys. Ive never received a single communication. I asked again this week and they about laughed at me. I bought a Maverick locally (used) from a private seller and I’m happy. I figure in six years when my order gets built, I’ll pass the current Maverick on to my son for his first vehicle. Should time out just fine!
Yep, one of the two dealers I ordered from was crossroads!

And although it is true I ordered 4 and only want one.... I AM a household of 4 drivers ( Myself, the wife, a 21 and a 20 year old... along with two more kids not far from driving age as well ). Who is to say that I should not be able to order 4 trucks, when there is a possibility that I intend to buy all four for my family to own and drive?

Obviously if I ordered 25 of them that would be a massive stretch... But even then, who is to say I am not ordering them for my business?

The sad thing is thanks to covid, somehow we have gotten to a place in time where car lots are empty and you need to order and wait on bread and butter vehicles. In all of my lifetime I can never remember having to order and wait on mainstream run of the mill vehicles.... Maybe some ultra limited edition Hellcat charger or some other high demand super low volume performance car.... But having to wait for a Sienna minivan or pick up truck etc... is just crazy.

If Ford got their crap together, and could supply the dealers with proper inventory there would be no need to order, there would be no mark ups, there would be no incentive to buy these to flip, etc....

What I don't like is that Ford can't build the orders they have and then they will open the order bank so people can order more trucks they can't build. Crazy way to do business. Just doesn't make sense.

Regarding the rumors of Ford canceling orders if you order more than two, I can say I’ve experienced a similar situation when ordering in September’22.
I had my order disappear from the dealers records and when they asked the Ford rep he claimed I had “multiple orders”. I had not ordered anywhere else except in 2021when I configured a MY22 online and “ordered”. I was referred to a dealer who contacted me and after the conversation wasn’t satisfactory to me I never confirmed or committed to purchasing one.
Neither Ford nor the dealer resolved the missing order but was offered another one that a customer backed out of and was re-configured to my specs. Unfortunately still waiting to be scheduled. So there’s a possibility the rumor had or has some validity.

I agree. That is why I likely won’t be placing a 2024 order if I don’t get my 2023 order.

Instead of shotgunning around 4, it's possible one well researched order where he built good will, found a reputable dealer, got a better priority code, ensured they had allocations, possibly got a call if one was cancelled, etc would improve his chances. Not certain but possible.
The big problem is that with the Ford allocation system it is impossible to even roughly know what allocation a dealer will get and even the dealerships did not have any idea of what allocation they would get back in September.

None of the dealerships that I have been dealing with have been willing to share the number of orders they have and what allocations they have been getting even now.

I don't have a clue how you might build up the good will you mentioned since was in and out of the dealership within about 30 minutes when I placed my order. Being a jerk of course might get you badwill but it was clearly just a business transaction and I did not want to waste the salespersons time when they could be dealing with other customers.

A reputable dealership would also not give one customer a higher priority code than other customers.

I did talk to more than half a dozen Ford dealerships before placing my two orders. Some I ruled out because they have things like a non-refundable deposit or required dealer add on packages.

I will be so glad when the car dealership sales model eventually goes away.

Don't hold your breath. While I'm sure it's frustrating for dealers to not have more cars to sell, Ford and other manufacturers will never return to the model where their dealers have months of inventory on hand. From Ford's perspective, keeping inventory low keeps transaction prices high. It also dramatically reduces the need for big manufacturer sales incentives like cash back or promotional loan rates (although we are seeing these creep back for the highest priced trucks that have been most impacted by higher car loan interest rates).

Additionally, with all the market adjustments dealers have been raking in due to the high demand / low inventory, it's only natural that Ford will continue to raise the MSRP of those vehicles to match what buyers are actually paying.

This whole unknown allocation thing is just stupid. Ford doesn't care so if they get double or triple or 20 times more orders than really wanted its TOTALLY ON THEM. Simple fix only allow the number a dealer can order by how many allocations they are allowed for the year. No more BS Ford doesn't know this number or it varies monthly. If that is how its setup it's WRONG, fix it.

Or ignore as that is what most likely will occur and get people placing 4 or more orders for one wanted vehicle. Ford deserves this to happen. Too bad it doesn't really hurt them financially. If it did it would change.

You're right, it might have made no difference. It might have though. The point is that in general doing things in a positive way tends to bring positive things back. It's not an absolute, just a trend (kinda like the Vegas house odds).

I did it the way you say. I placed one order. I have no order in sight and doubt I will. I was a SUCKER for only placing one order. Nice guys finish last. No more.

If the multiple orders limit exists there are plenty of ways around it.

I think OP was ahead of the times and Ford has brought it upon themselves. Not that any of this impacts the bottom line for now.

I was first to order at my dealer. I sat there into the evening on the 15th waited for the order to go through and insisting they keep trying. That dealer probably had a handful of 21 rollovers. I expected to get scheduled in early Spring.

we place a second order on the 19th for an EB, because by then it already seemed like my Spring hybrid expectations were optimistic.

for some reason the EB was pushed up to a priority 13 while the hybrid was a 19. Figured we’d get the EB…. But no… the hybrid was scheduled for late June.

We really don’t know how it works.

Not true. Ford can't even keep track of people's zip codes for private offer matching. You think they are doing name matches and voiding orders? You don't think dealerships would be mad as hell they have no chance to get those precious Mavericks and made some serious cash if the original order customer walks away?
<< snip >>
Yeah, I don't know how Ford could possibly do that. When I lived in Houston, I learned that there were four of us with the exact same first name, last name, and middle initial. One of those four even had the same birthday as I do - just one year off. One lived in the same zip code! Unfortunately, one of them had been convicted of domestic assault, so the other three had to prove that we were NOT that guy every time we put in a job application that did background checks.

But Ford is going to somehow figure out that John Smith ordered multiple Mavericks from multiple dealerships, when the only facts they have are name and email? Heck, I've got at least five active email accounts...

Nope. Not happening. Especially since we have proof, since at least one MTC member has ordered and received four Mavericks...
