RIP this mavericks CV's and transmission. Don't turn over any bumps either. These trucks can't handle this stuff man. I've lifted every truck I've ever owned, but this is just overkill and not going to end well.

Is the tremors transmission dialed up any different like the 4K tow package is? I would hope they are a little more robust in terms of handling torque etc for their use scenarios.

I will be posting as often as I can on this pre runner style build of my 23’ tremor . First I did a gr40 suspension kit from flat out suspensions.

IMG_2810.jpeg

Then I mounted up some 255/75/17 BFGoodrich mud terrains ( 32x10”)

IMG_2785.jpeg
IMG_2784.jpeg

Now the whole unit sits about 2 1/4 “taller at the wheel arch. Only 1 1/2” in rear.
going to order longer springs too to play more with height . Didn’t get the 3 1/2” I was looking for.

IMG_2824.jpg

IMG_2826.jpeg
IMG_2822.jpeg

stance is not quite right. May go 11/2” wheel spacer until I can make some A arms.
next up is cutting the bumpers up and doing some tube bumpers with skid plates.
but first is relocating elm from lower federwell( worst ford placement ever )

image.jpg

And rim and weld pinch weld

image.jpg
image.jpg

it’s dark now so will do finish work tomorrow.

the best thing about the suspension kit is the rear went from 2 1/2 “ of suspension droop to 5”
will have to re cycle the front after I get new springs made .
biggest issue all around is the lower arm resistance on the front .I may go for a custom lower arm with a uniball or other joint layed sideways . The swaybar is also adding a large amount of compounded spring rate ,even with one side disconnected.( looking at modding apex disconnects or making my own)
i do have a set of stock tremor tires with 2000 miles for sale soon and the stock tremor shocks, springs and struts too.
in the east San Diego area.

This truck is for light playing in the anza Borrego desert area. I have a property at ocotillo wells ,across from the airport there by the off road park.
I do know it will never keep up with the serious desert machines but is also a good daily versus my buggy or full size broncos .

But we will see what the limits really are!
Really nice job so far and loving everything you're doing. Honestly I really like this stance without the spacers. But everything you've done is like the magic touch lol

Yeah but if this dude's capable of doing all this he can replace a CV axle on his own

Dude, awesome post! The extra suspension droop is definitely something we need on the Maverick. Most the off-roading we have done we are on 2~3 wheels most of the time just because the suspension won’t travel beyond a couple of inches

I think you are missing the point... Lots of us can replace CV's... I can also turn my wheels at full lock without rub and not overstressing stock components. This Tremors lifespan on suspension/steering parts and driveline components just got cut in half due to the angles and size/weight of the tires alone.

Whatever. YOLO amiright...

I know I sound like a grumpy hater, but these trucks are not built to handle these angles. Unibodies in general are not built to handle this kind of lift. The Flatout lift is one thing but anything above 2"... hell, anything above the stock Tremor level is definitely going to cause issues. This level of lift here, it won't take long. If this was an on frame truck it might stand a chance but still - not likely. Tons of info out there to showcase this and the negative side effects. Lastly, anyone can cut up a fender... it's how you seal it that makes the difference. Of course, in CA... they probably don't care as much.

It's the same transmission. I'm willing to bet it takes less than 30k before OP notices serious problems, if not almost immediately with rough shifting.

The kit is good, and I did get the rear spacers to lower the rear subframe. The biggest gain was the additional 2“ of shock travel , which equates to 2”-2 1/2”of additional droop travel in the rear . In the front it seams to equate to about 1” with the sway bar disconnected. Still playing with spring height/ preload.
seems I may need to find some slightly longer , and ,or heavier springs for the front, as I have to over-preload the 175 lb springs to get any height, which gets a little bouncy . The rears are also a little heavy for an empty bed , and are a little high on the adjusters only getting about an 1” over stock height.
Ford Maverick Prerunner style Maverick Tremor build w/ 33's IMG_0157
going to try to to stop at fox tomorrow, they are about 10 minutes away and see if they can help with some springs To set up with ,before I commit.
Back in the 90,s had a 2wd Nissan hardbody set up on 31” yokahamas , with jimmy conner racing arms , body lift, blah blah blah…. This drive system and with the focus rs diff seems to be more capable at slower speeds. Just need to get the body clearance. Already bashed the front lower valance in on a Tahoe trail last month I took the 2wd Nissan on in 93’. Also drug the exhaust at the rear diff . This caused the rear exhaust hanger to push back and roll upward and stick , which then caused the rear valence to melt from the exhaust blowing on it .
When I used to race Off road we used anything we felt comfortable with to pre run the race courses. Full size broncos were the best, but rangers or short bed f150’s or a well built explorer did well too , 2 or 4wd , your choice ,as long as you knew how to drive the silt beds with them your alright.
our race trucks were 2wd explorers for simplicity and weight.
ran stock class on 35” all terrains.

Oh and best I got stock was 22.9 mpg , so 2 or 3 less will still be 10 or more mpg better than my full size bronco, the navigator or my 460 powered centurian( 4 door full size bronco)

I didn't lift my 79 datsun...I instead bought a 86 SR5 xtracab then lifted. Good luck as Montana said on it holding together. I don't think enough tremors have been rear ended to have a bone yard of CVs yet. You could always try a hybrid next🤣. Plenty of those I think!

The axles are at least an 1/8” thicker diameter , haven’t pulled the cv,s on the tremor but look like 5 ball ends on both sides !
the hybrid are 3 ball on one end and 5 ball on trans end .
they pop apart easy on spindle side( 3 ball)

bought a hybrid With one like that and fixed and flipped it . And actually just got another hybrid from Copart auction today ,appears this only need body work.will see tomorrow.

as far as the transmission I believe only modes are different for the tremor over the regular awd . But fast mavericks up by l.a. just posted 11.97 quarter mile times with sticky tires on hard surface. The large tires on loose pack surface( slippage ,scrubbing, etc)should help on the strain.
the only other option would be to pony up an additional 30k on top of the 38k for the new raptor ranger. And drop back to 15,maybe 16 mpg .
figured I could stick 10k in with some time , try some ideas out and see what happens.
worst case I buy another Copart 10k maverick swap parts and sell some stuff. Scrap the rest , go back to the full size broncos.
i believe the mavericks will do good up to a point , then like anything else , cut the roof off it full cage integrated to the firewall and pillars and hand fab all the suspension.
i don’t think a stock maverick can keep up with many Stock trucks or suvs of the 90’s or early 2000,s through the big whoops at speed , but with a few mods ,I believe they can and get better mileage while looking good and modern.

Just taking a vehicle offroad cuts its life down whether its a Raptor R(remember all the 1st gen raptors with broken frames from jumping) or Honda Civic. Maverick transmissions weren't made for 2.3s but now they exist and move fast. OP seems to have the will, skill, and wallet to do this work. I say there is no point in trying to bring him down, he is gonna fly high anyways.

I think if you go back to showroom stock, something like a Tremor Mav would do pretty well offroad against something comperable in size like a stock Ranger, Comanche, Nissan, S10 or Toyota. Alot of them were sitting on 29" tires too and didnt often have skidplates over their transmission pans. Any of the IFS rigs would bash their steering on literally everything. All the old rigs we love, we look at through nostalgia glasses, that have the memory of all the mods and repairs we did on em to get em decent. I still got a bone stock ZJ and its weight and proportions are pretty similar to my Tremor. On a few obstacles and roads I have taken em both on they were pretty comparable. The ZJ does flex alot more, but bottoms out sooner and as soon as its flexed out it stops pulling. I have had the Maverick legit running on 2 wheels and it kept moving.

There is give and take with anything. I have a feeling you will find its weaknesses and address them properly. Please be sure to get someone to follow you with a camera.

While I don’t have the money, expertise or cojones to take on a project like this. I got to admit I love seeing it! Just like these 11 second Mavs, not something that drives me to explore it but I love that folks are willing to push the boundaries and see what happens. Very cool OP. Looks like a beast with this setup, I hope it holds up and performs as well as it looks.

Preach on! All the negative Nancys need to shush it and let OP go crazy. There's no room for reason in this thread!
