I have to go to the bathroom every 30 mins when I sleep. That ladder would do me in.

How about an empty plastic bottle with the appropriate girth opening and a lid.

Getting any wind noise with a setup like that? Do you commute with all the gear or take it off? I'm considering my roof rack options but noise is a big factor for me.
