I will be posting as often as I can on this pre runner style build of my 23’ tremor . First I did a gr40 suspension kit from flat out suspensions.

Ford Maverick Prerunner style Maverick Tremor build w/ 33's IMG_2810

Then I mounted up some 255/75/17 BFGoodrich mud terrains ( 32x10”)

Now the whole unit sits about 2 1/4 “taller at the wheel arch. Only 1 1/2” in rear.
going to order longer springs too to play more with height . Didn’t get the 3 1/2” I was looking for.

stance is not quite right. May go 11/2” wheel spacer until I can make some A arms.
next up is cutting the bumpers up and doing some tube bumpers with skid plates.
but first is relocating elm from lower federwell( worst ford placement ever )

And rim and weld pinch weld

it’s dark now so will do finish work tomorrow.

the best thing about the suspension kit is the rear went from 2 1/2 “ of suspension droop to 5”
will have to re cycle the front after I get new springs made .
biggest issue all around is the lower arm resistance on the front .I may go for a custom lower arm with a uniball or other joint layed sideways . The swaybar is also adding a large amount of compounded spring rate ,even with one side disconnected.( looking at modding apex disconnects or making my own)
i do have a set of stock tremor tires with 2000 miles for sale soon and the stock tremor shocks, springs and struts too.
in the east San Diego area.

This truck is for light playing in the anza Borrego desert area. I have a property at ocotillo wells ,across from the airport there by the off road park.
I do know it will never keep up with the serious desert machines but is also a good daily versus my buggy or full size broncos .

But we will see what the limits really are!

Wow. Looks like some genuine engineering and fabrication going on there in sunny San Diego!

Keep us updated on this build. Very interesting to watch.

Loving this. You are doing all the things I want to but am too affraid to do until i get ours paid off a little more. I am all about fabricating. Your truck is looking nice and right.

Please stay on here and keep us posted with what works and dont be afraid to report what doesnt. I also think there might be something to modifying those rear trailing arms too. Another thing to look at is we need to cross shop front axles to find ones with better range and possibly lengthened to allow more angle and work with potentially wider lower control arms.

Thank you .
will do and yes rear trailing arms are lowered with the rear gr40 kit ,but they still have a lot of resistance and angle too much when pushed for height .
custom axles based off of 930cv’s would be the best but costly . May be awhile on those. Body mods next to fit 33” tires after the bumper covers get cut.

Also love that you are going for 33s. I hope this all goes well. If it does, I have said it before I really hope that the Maverick/Bronco Sport are the XJ/MJs of the 2020s! If they are we are gonna be having a lot of fun bashing around in em in 2050!

This is totally bonkers! Love to see it!

Didn’t get the 3 1/2” I was looking for.
Man if I had a dime for every time I heard that :sneaky:

Admire the dedication and planning, but I have to say I gotta cringe a bit when I see you take a grinder to the structural member parts. Guess I am just too old fashioned. o_O

Not much structural about that. The pinch welds are just that big because it's easier for the robot to spot weld em that way. Cutting it down to about 1/4" and rewelding the seam it just as strong as a 1" tall seam with a few spot welds. The way I usually do em on older unibodies is cut em every 2 inches then fold em flat against the panel in alternating patterns, then weld em up flat like that. Then it's nice and smooth with the triple thickness metal providing rigidity. The only cringe part for me is that it's new metal and I'm poor and have 5 years of payments left. I I'm not gonna be doing any welding on parts that aren't bolt on for about 80,000 more miles. If my stock gambles ever come in maybe I will buy my wife a new ride and start chopping this one up to my needs but she gets nervous when I modify things we owe a lot of money on.

Me too, but this was the first thing that came to me when I seen it. LOL

I always wanted to build my 74 Maverick like that and run it on the PanAmerican Trail and then the TransAmerican Trail. Then blaze my own trail diagonally from Maine to San Diego. And then Oregon to Florida, and then...

Hi Brian, Good to see someone else trying out the GR40 setup. I have a set that I have had sitting for a while with the intention of mounting myself, but have been too caught up in other things to make it happen. Might just have to take it to a shop to get it done. Did you install yourself or take it to a shop. Just curious what your experience was like on installation if you did it yourself. Also, are you using the 1.5" rear subframe spacer kit option they have to reduce angles on the CV joints? Maybe this would help the resistance you are talking about? I'm curious what setting you are running the shocks at and how ride softness feels so far? I have bigger Falcon Wildpeak AT3s on already, but not as big as what you mounted. Mine are 245/70 R17 and I have not done any liner or pinch weld trimming. In certain situations I get a little rubbing on the felt, but nothing that's a problem. I have to admit that now that I have the GR40 setup sitting for a few months I am wondering if I want to just leave it stock, but hoping you can reignite my excitement about it. I took the truck to Utah back in April on the White Rim Road in Canyonlands and did pretty well for a while, but then hit a stretch that was tightly walled in by scrub and had really deep rutting. A couple inches of lift might have got me through that section. My goal was to get a bit more capable for some moderate situations. There is very little info on here from GR40 users and hoping to hear more details about your thoughts. Thanks!
