Good morning folk's

Wife was heading out in my 22, eco boost maverick all of sudden she lost power an had to stop on side of the road, luckily she was just at the end of our street, and with this error you are still able to limp around at slow speeds so she was able to turn around and get it parked at our house.

My Mavericks VIN is listen in the recent recall which we haven't received via mail yet and just been bouncing around online and the symptoms sound like the 12V failure recall.

I started my maverick later that night to see if I could move it to the other side of the street for easier access to have towed and it seemed to be working fine.....which is odd, either way we had it towed to ford to have it looked at and I brought up the suspected recall, they said they would look into it for me but I may need to pay the $185.00 shop rate for diagnostics, which I get, however if it the recall issue in the end I imagine I can talk to them about having that waived. Wish me luck I'll keep you folks updated as I should here later today on the situation, my main concern is if it is the recall and they don't have the issued fix yet, and can't do anything, hard to feel safe if they give the truck back when the same thing could potentially happen when at high speed on a highway or something could be catastrophic.

also to note I'm just over 60,000km so my main bumper to bumper warranty has expired however power train warranty is 100,000km / 5 years so at least I'm covered if it is an actual power train issue.

more than odd; it's indicative that it is probably not the 12V battery itself. it could be many, many things including a battery terminal, but the recall is for rapid internal failure of the battery (some kind of charged plate issue), and it's not going to start working later.

it's worth having a diagnostic done. is the error code shown in fordpass?

Ya definitely not good, anyway hopefully I get some answer's today and not a "everything seems fine, good luck" and then just pray it doesn't happen when on the highway......

In ford pass all I can see is;

ugh, that's a terribly vague and unhelpful message. I thought I'd see before where people were getting the actual DTC codes. hopefully your dealership can diagnose, but no, I doubt it's related to the ecoboost flooded battery recall.

Ya wishful thinking it's just recall battery issue, but we will see, I'm not sure when I go to service area in app nothing shows, this is the only trace of it I can find on my ford pass app (in the messages section) If I turn on the vehicle, the light or warning message was no longer there, so hard to diagnose anything beyond bringing it in.

So update,

Just off phone with dealership, the verdict is, error code was read by them as 12v battery being low, which caused the issue.....so leads to the recall....

They removed the battery charged it and put it back on, checked it later "holding charge" returning vehicle to me and charging me their minimum $99.00 to cover just their labor.....

So about to pick up my truck which sounds like isn't fixed, and paying money to tell me that it's a known issue but they can't fix it until they have the proper directive associated with the recall. So basically now I'm driving around a time bomb until dealerships get direction on how they are supposed to fix the problem

Not thrilled, also crazy that they are charging me at all, I'll probably try to dispute it when I grab my truck later today, was told by dealership to call Ford customer care in regards to my concerns about being stuck with a unsafe vehicle.

Called them and they basically said they don't deal with recalls, they are dealt with by the dealerships, however they have documented my concerns, and when I brought up what if this happens again? I'm just supposed to tow it over and over to a dealership at my expense and get charged over and over until Ford sends out the recall solution? Was basically told to keep my receipts...... So not very happy with how any of this is being handled.

That sucks, if you're limping along a bad battery waiting for a replacement due to recall, you'd think they'd be covering any related costs until they can fix it.

I'd seriously consider just going and buying a decent quality battery on your own. I know it stings, as they should be incurring that cost. But if they're going to place some of that burden on you anyway, on top of not knowing the quality of the next battery they install, I'd personally just take the lump on the chin and move on.

Like you said, what if it happens again? Next time the truck might not be just right down the road and cause a hefty inconvenience. Plus another $100 fee and you'll be close to already covering the cost your own battery purchase.

Your not wrong about the cost of new battery is likely not far off what I could potentially be paying,

I did pick up the truck and voiced my concerns to the dealership, service manager did seem sympathetic in the situation and he did dive me their on call mobile tech's number in the mean time and was instructed to keep the receipt for the $100.00 and they would "likely" be able to reimburse it once they have the directive from ford on how to deal with the recall.

I'm sure I'm not the only one in the situation but if more people suffer the same issue I had I'm sure it will put the pressure on and it will hopefully be remedied fast.

Seems wild though that in the recall notice it literally says "can lead to a crash" and they we are waiting until the potential vague date of "should be available Q2" for the fix.....

There really isn't much figuring out to do on the recall - it's getting a new battery which seems to be the issue, stock availability.
FLA to AGM.

But the fact yours charged up and works for now doesn't sound like the recall issue - which is a bad battery.
Recharge and successful load test I don't see happening with what the recall describes, when it finally strikes.

There is a difference, and while that's great they are willing to sweep you under the rug of the recall for free replacement later, you might want to get one of those power port USB adapters that displays the V when you go to ACC key, before pressing on brake - just notice where it's at.
Starts dropping towards 12 - back to dealership.
They might find another FLA battery to use in the meantime if really no AGM's available.
