Howdy --

I have a 2022 Maverick XL Hybrid with just over 45k miles and I've gotten the same combination of error messages twice in the last month:

Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power & Service Engine Soon Warning: The Powertrain control system has detected a high voltage battery cell outside of the normal voltage range.

Both times (4/1 and 4/17) they've resolved themselves within 24 hours -- the weirdest part is the first time was resolved after I topped off the windshield wiper fluid (I got an error message around the same time for it and had some on hand) and the second time when I filled my gas tank (a bit below 1/4 tank, the low fuel light hadn't illuminated).

I haven't had any issues with reduced power or limp mode but I do feel like when this happens the hybrid system is less likely to activate (that's just my feeling though, not sure how to measure that).

I have an appointment at a dealership scheduled later this week to get it looked at but I'm not sure what they'll be able to diagnose without any check engine lights.

Has anyone else had any issues similar to this? This is my first Ford and first Hybrid so I'm a bit out of my depth experience wise.

Thanks

Hey there. I can look into your Maverick’s message concerns on my end. Will you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership info?

I had the same type of messages pop up in my First Edition - 11,000 miles - and seemingly resolve themselves. One day I came out and the truck would not start. By the time Ford tow truck came to pick it up it got started without any error messages. But as they dug into it - it was the Powertrain Module Chip (basically the brains of the truck) that needs replacing. I've been waiting for one month to get one - truck is parked at Ford dealership. No idea of when the part will come. At least they gave me a loaner. Unfortunately it sounds very similar to my situation.

That does sound similar... It's covered under the warranty at least?

Just picked my truck back up from the service center, luckily it only took 2 days to get addressed, here's the service description:

DTCS p0b24 00 a8
present in becm. performed ppt ah. clear dtc and rescan, dtc did not return. 2 monitor state of charge pid 30.48% charge to 46% rescan dtc did not return. condition corrected by charging. causal 10b687

10b687 is the HV control module, they said it (and this wasnt the tech just the customer service advisor) that it was too low due to lack of highway driving. I do onlydrive 8-10 miles a day so that seems plausible.

I had the same issue in a 2.5L Escape Hybrid AWD. I was not expecting it to show up in the Mav EB, but it did. 2nd day of ownership it came on and I saw the message in FordPass. I already have a date for the airbag recall and will have to get this addressed too. They replaced the same module in the Escape they use in the Mavericks.

I have found a "work around" for it though. It seems to only present itself on colder days. I put it in drive, roll forward a bit, turn the vehicle all the way off, open the door then restart. Usually it fixes itself. So if anyone is still having this issue and sees the "powertrain malfunction" message in FordPass, try that.

But, this is why I bought something still under warranty. I knew what to expect - just wasn't expecting the same issue with the Ecoboost setup. Simple fix though.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Just in case (since it's rather strange) check the 12v battery charge.

My 2024 XLT hybrid has had no updates that I know of but had the Reduced power malfunction stop me from starting the truck in my driveway. 3hours later, started fine, drove to dealership, all good.

Maybe a new thread for hybrid 2024s to help track other occurrences would be good.
