Please explain the AWD/4WD Tremor features and when to use them.

Forgive my inexperience. Whenever my Tremor gets built, it will be my first AWD/4x4 I’ve owned. I plan to run it off-road-ish, and also over the sand dunes to the beaches of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. When do you lock the rear diff? Thanks in advance. (No pics to share since right now it’s scheduled to be built in October, if that happens.)

Locking the rear diff would be for low speeds conditions when you expect one of the rear wheels to lose traction.

Drive modes are tailored for the inexperienced. Sand mode per your example, locks the center ptu and the rear rdu automatically.

In sand go ahead and lock it all up - AWD and rear locker - you don't have enough traction to cause issues.

But as @fossil stated, use the drive modes if you are unsure.

One cool thing sand mode does is directs more power to the outside rear wheel when turning to help pull you around. Another thing is sport mode engine and trans mapping.

"off-road-ish" means you will more than likely never need to get out of normal drive mode.

Keep it simple. Don't overthink it

you're correct and wrong. I didn't say it had sport mode, I said Sand mode had sport mode engine and trans mapping aka tuning.

When you start adventuring, I would say just take it slow roll your windows down and listen to the tires. Once you start encountering things that start spinning tires start using the center lock and rear diff lock. Other wise if you are somewhere and it just screams this is sand, mud and ruts, or icy. Try that mode out. Also Trail Control is awesome at walking you through things.

I think @fossil is saying that sand mode provides you with the same engine and trans mapping as sport mode.

Also, adding sport mode is a very simple Forscan mod.

On the beach you definitely want to air the tires down and use Sand mode if you have it. Even though the Tremor comes with good tires, it will not get great traction at 35+ psi, and dramatically better around 20-25.

Get a small portable compressor and air back up as you leave. I use this one and it's fine, not exactly heavy duty. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08Z3W3MSV

I like that you can set a target pressure and it will turn off when it's reached. So, set it to 35, start it up, when it stops move to the next tire.

You can experiment with the other drive modes. There are things that the drive modes do that aren't selectable with just the console buttons, for example Slippery mode changes the throttle mapping to make it less responsive, which can aid in mitigating wheelspin.

Thanks for the tips. As for the Forscan, I don't want to void the warranty by making those type of changes. If Ford provides it as a firmware update, then I'll use it.

I'd have to the orange compressor, to match the Tremor orange accents.
