Very creative!

BTW, what's that white stuff all over your truck? You been spray painting?
The white stuff is road salt.

Very cool!

Just to put it out there, the Ridgeline has had a great version of this for a long time. I nearly bought one while waiting for my Maverick to come in. Frankly, after a year of ownership, I still might.

I'm jealous of the side opening tailgate.
But of course I want it all, I don't want to give up the middle hook for sheet goods.
My CRV had a side opening hatch, sometimes it was helpful, sometimes it was a hindrance.

I go back and forth on that door too, I have no idea if I would use it a lot.

I do really like that trunk idea of yours the more I look at it. My bed extender serves a similar purpose but it’s odd-shaped. I end up throwing a strap around a cooler and one points in the bed. Kind of a pain.

We switched to the Mav from a sedan and sometimes I miss having a trunk to throw a cooler and other stuff in. A hard tonneau cover and 2x6 would get the job done, but I'm cheap, and I already had the wood, so I put together what I'm calling the Pickup Truck Trunk.

The front piece slots into the bed pockets, with a spacer at the bottom to increase the footprint.
The 2 side blocks slot under the bed edge and hold down the top with 5/16" carriage bolts and star knobs. The 1by is cut to length to fit snugly into a pocket in the bed side with a cut out for one of clips for the plastic bed toppers.
The top piece has a J channel to lock the front piece. It's cleats are also trapped, side to side, by the bed, in front by the side blocks and in back by the tailgate.

I also added a couple pieces of parachute cord to clip the big pieces down, just in case. As Mike Rowe used to say, 'Safety 3rd'.

Good idea. I found 2 old light weight chrome shelfs and very strong Harbor Freight magnets that hold them in place and a couple of painted 2x4 in the bed notches to secure them. Similiar to yours but I can disassemble magnets in seconds to take out when hauling big stuff. Something else I added is an old hiking stick, drilled a large hook in one end that stays in my bed to pull items that may slide to the back of the bed, out of reach. Hiking stick hook comes to the rescue.

I mean.. you're not *that* cheap, you do have an XLT and not XL. :)

Nice work. I'm curious if you will notice any difference in mpg on the interstate. You do with a tonneau cover, 1-2 mpg at 70+.
This was my first thought. I am cheap, got the XL with no add on. 😁

Hey if they ever make an EV Maverick you won't need the cooler space... you can just dump your ice and shrimp cocktails in the frunk :ROFLMAO:
Well then he would have a pickup truck trunk frunk (PTTF)! 😂

I was think it was dust from limestone chat on a gravel road. Forgot about road salt as they don’t put much of that down here in Arkansas

I was there too. Didn’t buy it, but still wonder if I should have.
