Hey Folks, when I first open the truck door, to enter the truck, the overhead lights will NOT come on. I have the overhead switch set in the MIDDLE position, per the manual's instructions. When I open the door to LEAVE the truck, the lights come on. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Electrical curses are not new to me, as I had driven British sportscars for 60 years. If my Maverick lights were Lucas, I would understand. In the interim, I have installed a tap light on the bulkhead between the front and rear door, and I hope that its 2-sided tape will hold.

Oh, in a non-related matter, I got the running boards installed that one of you put me on. They are a big help to my sister entering the truck, with her two replacement knees. I took photos with my new smartphone, now I just need to figure out how to post them to this forum. (I am a dumbphone guy.)

Sounds a lot like your truck is going into "Deep Sleep" due to a low voltage on the battery. It turns off certain features to try to ensure you can still start the truck (and hopefully recharge the battery). Even a short drive will bring the battery voltage up enough that all features (like lights) will work for that drive. Until you park it and the voltage drops again.....

Do you receive any notices in your FordPass App?

EDIT: I see you are a " dumbphone" guy. I bet it is going into Deep Sleep and you simply are not being told about it? Have you installed the FordPass App and linked it to your Maverick?

Thanks for the quick response, paneubert. Although there is nothing I can do about it, I think that you have cleared it up for me. I don't know what an App is, and I don't know what FordPass is. From what I can glean from other posts, Deep Sleep comes on when the truck sits for long periods of time. Well, I start and drive the truck every day, so I am not too concerned in that regard. The 12-volt battery is a 6-month-old Ford replacement, so if this battery is biting the dust already, I will get a Die Hard like the folks on here have done. Thanks again, at least I know that it is a FordPass/DeepSleep/App issue, and not Lucas.

Happens to me too. It can't possibly save any really battery power to turn those lights on for 30 seconds when we get into the truck at night. Dumb.

Who knows. It disables other thing as well, like remote start. Which is not much different from a power perspective other than the tiny amount of power it takes to send the truck the signal to remote start. The truck is already communicating with the Ford Servers anyway, so it is an odd thing to disable.

Remote start is only disabled via the app, works fine from the fob. ;) Good enough reason not to rely on the Fordpass app alone.
Another oddity. Whatever. As long as my truck still starts when I want it to, I don't care about the app at all

I've been driving a hybrid vehicle since 2007 and have never, ever, heard of (seen/experienced) such a thing as disabling the interior lights to save battery!!! Maybe it's a good thing I haven't gotten my Mav yet, maybe by the time my rolls around (2025???) they will have figured it out.
And agreed, apps schmapps . :p

No, it can apply to EcoBoost as well. It actually applies across many Ford vehicle lines. It is not a Maverick specific thing. It is a Ford thing. Been happening for years, essentially since Ford started using Battery Management Systems attached to the battery. Not like the old days when there was not much being monitored regarding the battery other than the voltage. Now you have a dedicated computer monitoring the battery and all the variables related to the battery.

Thanks for the detailed answer! I'm guessing it won't be a problem for me as I live rural and take no "short" drives.

The dome lights are just one of a list of things the battery saver disables in this situation.
