Over the Air(OTA) software updates?

Just a quick question about software updates on the Maverick. Does the Maverick get updates? How often? What are some of the features you have seen added, taken away etc in the OTA updates if you have gotten any? Thanks!

The radio (Sync or whatever you have) can get OTA updates, but the truck in general only gets updates at the dealership.

Theoretically the Sync 4 2025's should have the capability for OTA updating of general vehicle modules that normally would require an FDRS hookup.

Little risky, if an update fails you could be left with an un-drivable vehicle that would require service.

I've never updated my 2022 Sync 3 software. Works great. If it ain't broke....

Not sure there's anything they have/could add in an update. Now if you're having issues, it would be worth updating to see if it fixes the problem.

Only if they don't code it with checksum to ensure the data is complete & correct before reflashing & retain the original in memory for rollback in case the update fails, all of which is standard practice for flash updates.

There are several products that give you SYNC-4 capabilities for under $100. Magic Link is one of them. Been using it for the last 6 months on my '24 Mav.

What capabilities does Sync 4 have that Sync 3 doesn't have?

I can already use Fermata Auto/CarStream/Screen2Auto(free apps) to display YouTube/Stremio/IPTV.

Edit: I think you are referring to Wireless AA?
Yes, I've had an AAWireless adapter for a few years. I actually don't want the built in Wireless of Sync 4, because the apps I mentioned won't work without the developer mode of AAWireless device or a rooted phone.

Unless less you have a good WiFi connection the OTA updates would probably be better done by usb downloads. They are for the Sync system and/or Map updates for navigation. The vehicle updates are done by the dealer. I find it easier and faster to download to usb drive and install it that way.

Hey Jimmyland...how does one download the system updates to USB...where do I go to get them? I've been sitting in my truck in my garage for almost an hour and the progress bar has moved maybe 1/4 of an inch....which I think is ridiculous. I have a very fast Wi-Fi connection to my house.

Probably Ford's servers are the bottleneck.

But it would be easier to be in house and let computer be slowly getting it instead.
Or - do you have teenagers with friends over?

I found the instructions & went to Ford. Com to drill down several menus until i found files. Downloading then to a thumb drive now... about 12Gb. I find this process very archaic & annoying.

Same here at my house but the site I used was https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/. They also give you an option to purchase a USB drive for price already loaded with the update software.

You may want to see if your drive is formatted correctly (NTFS of FAT32) not sure which one is preferred. Also if doing a Navigation update make sure your Sync is up to date first. I will attach an error trouble sheet (if I can find it) I got from another guy who had some issues but mine went smoothly. Hope this helps you out...Worse case scenario you can always get the dealer to do it but that means a trip there and waiting around. mmm If all the files are downloaded correctly the install should start automatically and install.
