OVER SIZE TIRES

Has anyone tried using higher tires for better milage? I've thought about going with a 235/65/18, or a 245/65/18 in place of the stock 225/60/18 tires. I don't want wider just higher and the 65 aspect ratio should be close to the same width. I know it's easy to figure the different diameters and revs per mile with a tire size calculator/comparator. but I'm more concerned about the actual effect on MPG. The 245's would have about an inch more sidewall and turn 44 less revolutions per mile, and the higher sidewall would make for a better ride. But, am I taking the hybrid powertrain out of its "sweet spot"? Might I actually hurt the MPG by changing the operating rpm?

Do not go wider. You could try taller but results would be minimal.

If you’re going for mileage , go skinnier!
215 or 205.cvt trans will always keep you at ITS sweet spot .with height your just going to change how the electric motor pulls out of the hole with height change on the hybrids.

Everyone has logged worse fuel economy going with bigger tires.

It's hard to go with a larger diameter without going wider.
The one main example I can think of is 225/75/17 but each tire weighs 15 lbs more than the stock 225/65/17.

I am going 235/70/17 (similar to 235/65/18) because I am willing to take a slight fuel economy hit to fill out the wheel wells and get a bit of extra height without a lift kit.

I went with a slightly larger tire but with lightweight wheels. Took off at least 5lbs per corner. Granted they are EV rated and LRR tires so I didn't notice a change in mileage. Even with a little lift it still gets decent mileage.

Yeah lighter wheels is a very good point.
That can help offset the weight gain for bigger tires.
