Good day @garyp

I know the general answer and reasons off the top of my head as to the difference, but I find it better to include a good reference.

I hope this clears up the difference between summer and winter fuel blends, as well as why.

Have a good one,

Andy
Odd! You always hear ā€œ we have summer blend now, hence the price increaseā€. Then, ā€œ we have winter blend now, hence the price increaseā€. This has been like this for years, ain’t no ā€˜seasonal’ drop!

And here I thought we would get questions on "Reid, and why does he get his own vapour pressure"! šŸ˜‰

All in good fun, eh?

Seriously though, in response to your statement...do you really think "Big Oil" is going to do anything in our favour?

Have a good one,

Andy

Around here we do have winter drop, summer increase.

And invariably someone that can't recall complaining about it last year, or can't recall getting an answer as to why, complains on NextDoor - with many joining in that they never heard about the reason apparently.
Or more likely - they all refuse to listen to the reason, and would rather believe what does indeed happen yearly is all planned by <insert your conspiracy here>.

Is the lifetime mileage from a Trip 1 or 2 reading - or a synopsis screen showing lifetime?

I thought the synopsis screen wasn't actually looking back over the past lifetime miles, but rather the last big chunk of miles.

Could that be the issue?
I cannot speak for the OP, but trusting the trip computer's MPG numbers aren't a good idea. Trust the numbers at the pump and distance traveled. Of course there are a lot of factors that could even throw that off, like the ODO being off from using non-factory installed tires, low tire air pressure and more.

Then it must be a U.S. thing cause it sure as hell doesn’t happen here in Canaduh!

I lose about 5-7 miles per gallon in the winter. Anyone driving in cold weather will experience this.

And if your gas has ethanol in it where it didn’t before, that will drop a few mpg off your average.

Fo me, I don’t look at mpg on my truck often. Not much I can do about it. And I have to go through all the seasons until I know my actual annual average which is far more accurate that one tank to the next.

At least we have great little Mavericks that have really good fuel mileage!

I know I am glad I have mine as my fuel usage is way down from my F-150, and is also reduced from the Subaru Crosstrek we traded in.

This softens the blow every time we fill up, whatever the fuel prices are.

Have a good one,

Andy

Good advice. I'll check the filters. Thanks.
Replaced the filters - down another .2 mpg on the cluster main reading. I'll go set a trip and start looking at that.

Did you know a slightly dusty filter traps more dust than a clean one? Now I tell you:)

Dust traps dust - to a point that is dustier than one would think. But when you suddenly cross the line to ā€œtoo dustyā€ - performance degrades quickly

That’s why the K&N filters work so damn good! 🤣🤣

Interestingly enough, I've had a trip meter going since the day I brought it home. I'm attaching some pics here I took a couple of weeks ago while driving to work at 5:30 am. PIC1 (Trip 2) is the trip counter started 40 miles after the truck rolled off.

PIC3 is the real time drive. Notice the power consumption (0%) and the MPG slider at 16 mpg, and the overall avg mpg at 35.3. I started noticing the reduction in mpg starting at 37.7 avg mpg on this real time drive screen.

This is after replacing the engine and cabin air filters.

Keeping an eye on it.

Was searching for the threads where it seemed someone knew how many past miles was used in the calc of the live screen. There was a figure, it wasn't really lifetime.
Memory tad fuzzy if the same applied to a Trip reading that started getting long.

Here's my Avg readings at fillup's (math'd in red) and what the Trip 2 mileage since last oil change is doing. Trip 2 seems to change as expected per Trip 1 readings. (XLT - so no lifetime screen like you have)
I think you can tell heavy highway use and moving into winter, same effect. (2nd to last figures contained in last figures)

Curious on your tad over 5k miles on the ICE - where is your OLM % sitting?
Have you had an oil/filter change yet?
