I was late to the Maverick party and Im considering ordering one now.

I called my local dealer and they said I would have to come in and do build with a salesman, and then it would be at least 6-8 months.
They told me a factory order would require a $1000 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit, because so many people were cancelling orders......well if this were true, wouldn't there be either lots of inventory available or it would speed up production?

Then I discovered online that Ford is not accepting new orders because of their inability to meet demand.
So what would my $1000 even be getting me? Is it an "Order" or a "reservation"? Is it even legit?
Would I be put at the end of the existing line of backlogged orders or
If Ford is not accepting orders, than does that mean my "order" would be submitted in 6-8 months....if that is the case, then wouldnt I be ordering a 2023 model at that point in time (which might have some different options).
Does a dealer even have the ability to submit an order at this time?
what would you do? has anyone tried to place an order recently (after the ford cutoff date)?
What was your experience? Thanks

Short and sweet.

Find another dealer and order in August when the order banks open up.

Sounds like they want to lock you into building a 2023 MY when the orders open for them in August. Just wait until then if you want to order one. My dealer asked for a $500 deposit but I didn't ask if it was refundable or not since I'm taking it either way, I think most are refundable since Mavericks are an easy sell over msrp.

It's my understanding orders for the 2022 model year are totally closed. You will have to wait until the order banks are opened for the 2023 model year to get one ordered. I not sure I would go to that dealer, in my opinion they giving you a line of BS

So the August order bank is a real thing?
Yes Im hesitant about this dealer, but it may have been a misunderstanding on my part or poor communication on their part. Maybe the 6-8 months meant the next order bank. The girl I spoke with may not even be a salesperson. She did put me on the call list for any that show up though.
I'll try calling again now that I have more information and know what to ask.

As I understand it, the dates below are copied from a different thread/post on this forum concerning the same subject:
August 16, 2022 -- Order bank opens for MY2023
October 24, 2022 -- Production begins for MY2023

Could also be they are locking you in to buy a 22 that thry know someone bailed on but hasn'tbeen delivered yet. Either way, this is shady and I would go somewhere else on August to get in line for a 23 model.

Well just to update:

I was on the ford website last night and did an inventory search. It showed that there was a "just arrived" Mav ecoboost at my dealer. I immediately requested a test drive.
They called me this morning (same woman I spoke to before), and the first thing she said was:

"would you like to come in today to go over your options and get your trade-in appraised?"

I replied by asking about the one they have on the lot.
She replied that it was a factory order for a customer and its gone. So apparently Ford puts any vehicle delivered to a dealership on their website as "Inventory", even if it belongs to someone else.
Then she tried to get me to come in and do a build and make a deposit. She said "The sooner you come in to get on the list for when it opens back up in July, the sooner you'll be able to get your maverick".

I replied: "It is my understanding that Ford is not taking any new orders until August, so what is the deposit even for if you cant submit an order?

She explained that the deposit would put me on the list so that when ordering opens up again AT THE END OF AUGUST (changed her time frame to match my research) I would be on the list and they "dont want it to fill up automatically as soon as orders open up again."

I then said: If the order cant be placed until August, it will be a MY23 with potentially different options and different prices. I'm hesitant to give a non-refundable deposit for a model that doesn't even exist yet
I said I would be happy to come in today and do a build and then give my deposit when the ordering is open again in July/August

She acted very understanding about the situation and repeated back to me that it seems strange to put a deposit down for a model that doesn't exist and I may never get.

She then suggested I speak with one of the managers to see what they can do." I will have one of them call you after their morning meeting"
I told her I could come in any time today.
She said "I will for sure follow up with you and get back to you after the manager meeting"

Never got the call back.
Its only taken two phone calls to remind me why dealerships/salespeople are so disliked.
