I originally bought an Ibolt 17 mm double ball socket adjustable mount to use in my Muslogy dash tray, but the 3M tape didn't stick well enough and came loose over time.

I decided to cut a scrap of plywood to fit in the plastic dash tray, as a zero cost fix. I added a couple thin strips of foam packing material to the ends to help it grip in better. Then covered the wood with black cotton from an old T Shirt. I used 4 wood screws to secure the mount. Will swap to black pan heads when I have time to find them at home, as I have limited hardware at work. I probably can use a 1/4" shorter barrel too, as the 3.75" one is a bit too long.

I like many features the Garmin has over app based maps. So I prefer to use both. This mounts it very secure, but can pop it off quickly if needed. There is a thin felt strip between the GPS and tray to prevent rattles. Will secure and reroute the cord at home. Here's a few pics:

Nice! As I've mentioned before, when I made a trip to DC earlier this year, I used both my in-dash navigation, as well as my Garmin. It was interesting to see when they suggested different routes at times.
Good thing I'm old enough to know how to read a map, and select the best option,,,,

Yes, I have used Garmin GPS for almost 30 years, and still see the value in them. Even if I am using in dash maps, the Garmin is worth it for the extras.

I still have an older large-screen garmin. I really like them, though I haven't used it for a while. Just a nice, easy-to-read map. It had free "lifetime" updates, though I'm not sure if that's still the case.

I used an adjustable ball mount just stuck sideways in the cubby. holds the Garmin well. https://amzn.to/4dcaEgs
RV version for towing the camper. Easy to use, doesn't tie up the screen and also displays the camper's back up camera. Nice as I can have it on when I'm driving.

I just updated mine a couple days ago. You are supposed to do it at least once a year to keep the subscription active. Not sure if they really stop them though.

I forgot we have an old Garmin. When we travel, we usually use the maps app on my wife's cell phone. After reading a MTC thread couple days ago, I found the Garmin in the basement. Updated the maps (took about 45 minutes) and it works. Will give it a go next out-of-town trip

Does the Bullet Point mount hold a Garmin GPS unit? I’m looking forward to seeing your setup.
