Wish I was 10 years younger to be able to do that. But always hated being under a car. Esp exhaust systems.

Much of that goes back to the anti rust coating applied at the factory. Toyota Tacoma's from like 04 - 10 - their frames rusted out like swiss cheese due to the lack of effective coating and they had to replace thousands of frames in a class action lawsuit.
Worst rust I ever had was on a Toyota truck. Too bad, the engine was still good. I gave it away.

Early Toyota trucks didn't have any because they don't use salt in Japan on the roads so Toyota didnt even think to have to use a zinc coating ...... until the trucks started crumbling..... ;)

My 88 toyots did not have serious rust issues. But that was not a Tacoma.

Just had mine done with black wax undercoating. Excellent coverage on undercarriage and panels.

I did Fluid Film myself in my driveway, not perfect but anything helps! I know you mentioned that it's harder for you to get under the truck yourself though. Any sort of oil or wax coating will still work (Fluid Film is lanolin wax). Whatever option you choose, make sure to juice down the spare tire too, especially around the bead!

$900 with tax, lifetime warranty. More than I wanted to spend but plan on having this truck for a long time. Living in Maine, I think this will greatly prolong the life.

Great price I just talked to a guy around me quoted 1300 for NH oil boss wax plus another 250 for something called honey he sprays in the doors and tailgate. I think the cost is to much.

Second on Waxoyl !
My 2007 Tundra got it after one winter of Vermont's nasty road salt brine mixture.
I sold the truck in 2016, no rust. It is still on the road up North which is pretty good.
My 2015 Ford Edge got it when new and has no rust although only one winter in Vermont.
Waxoyl was what the Brit Land Rovers used.

I had a used, rust free Southern pick-up oil undercoated by a long established business.
It drpped oil for a week. A real environmental hazard.
I had a rust through in the drivers rear cab corner in less than a year.
Apparently a drain hole was blocked and water was trapped inside.
I quit on the oil undercoat after that.
