Yes, definitely needed. Fluid Film or comparable product. Once you remove the wheel liners you will see all the areas that trap salt and road debris. Here in the rust belt I don't think the Maverick will last very long without salt protection. Mabett's mud flaps and underbody shield will help too.

Yes. You should only use a Lanolin based product and I think it is nearly a requirement if you plan to keep your vehicle long term.

Fluid Film (what I use and prefer)
B’Laster Surface Shield (Cleveland, OH company)
Wool Wax

those are the top three.

Keeping it long term? Do what the above posters have said. They are spot on.
Keeping it 3 years and dumping it when the warranty expires? Don't waste your money you will not get a penny more for it at trade in.

Thank you all! And, yes, this is the last vehicle I will probably ever buy. It replaces the 2002 Jeep Wrangler TJ that I bought used in 2005 and have driven for the past 20 years.

So Fluid film will never "go away" but it can get brushed off of surfaces or you may not have totally coated it to begin with. Generally you'll need to reapply every year for the first 3-4 years and then it will no longer be necessary because you'll have a film of it and dirt now protecting the underside.
