I can see the photo.Yes, I know about overfilling the crankcase and foaming of the oil which can lead to oil starvation in some plpicaces in the engine. Bad! I toom out a pint of oil, dipstick is where it should be a d all is right with the world. But I still can't get this damn Pic to show up in my post!
A person also has to consider the use of a longer or shorter oil filter. I always fill with five Qts. start the engine next to assure the filter is full etc.. and then slowly add up to where the dip stick says full. Who cares what is in print to me this should only be taken as a guide line. Your dip stick is the real tell.This is probably an old thread, but I have a question? Just did my first oil change pn my 24 lariet Hybrid. 4000 miles of enjoyable driving with zero problems. Great vehicle! Changed oil and filter and put in 6qt of 0W-20 0il. Checked the dipstick and it is really over filled! Now, under the hood written in white marker is the notation, 6.02 qt 0W-20 so I put on 6 in to refill. Dipstick says it's over filled! Manual says 5.5qt! Do I need to take out a pint or just leave it in? I'm confused! Please give me some input here. Thanks
Maybe 61 years, but I do the opposite in my 1985 Ranger. If I add the 6th quart as indicated, the truck will soon eat that oil and be back down to the lowest end of 'safe' hashmark. Somehow it does not like what the factory says it should have. Could be that the manual was set for the 'cast aluminum' oil pan, while mine is stamped. Been that way since new.I ,ve only been working on cars 60 years so read at your own risk!!
I,ve always just put the 1/2 quart extra in the engine and never had a problem.is it right,don’t know but never had one come back with a overfill problem.
No big deal what you did. You did what you thought was right based on the marking.Yes I know how to change oil in cars and trucks! But when it is in bold big print right out front 6.02Qt 0W-20 underlined. It gets your attention! I'll drain out a pint or so and move on. Thanks
On my first oil change 22 FX4 dealer put to much oil probity 6 qts it was 3/4 of a inch over on dip stick, I went back next day and they removed it to correct level. dealers don't use there best guys for oil changes and tire rotations, that guy learned the hard way, now when I go I always mention to adviser its 5.5 gts and they put it on the RO. 5.7 quarts and an empty new filter in my hybrid gets me to exactly the full line.
