Hi, I'm going to do an early oil change(around 2k). Got my maverick 2.0 awd last month.
It seems if I want to change oil the traditional way, I have to jack up the car, then remove the underbody shield. Lots of work
Can I suck out the oil with a oil change pump from the dipstick tube(I will insert the tube as deep as possible)?
I do not need to change the oil filter with this early oil change, do I?

Don't think i would do that. Yes, you ALWAYS want to change the oil filter. Your gonna have to be underneath the truck to do that anyway. Do it all the correct traditional way. Taking the shield off is really easy, quite a few screws, yes, but it's not difficult. Get you a set of good/safe drive on ramps and other necessary items and get after it. Do It Right, take your time, you'll save decent amount of $ in the process. Keep detailed records - maintenance logs, receipts, etc. you can even log them in your ford pass app

Let the dealer do it man, for a couple of reasons: The first oil change should be complimentary; It starts a paper trail which is especially important during an active warranty; They will complete a multipoint inspection AND you will likely get a free wash. How can you beat that?
One more question: why would you want to change your oil at 2,000 miles anyway?

Absolutely terrible idea for a variety of reasons. The first and most obvious concern is that on a Maverick you cannot pull the filter without draining all the oil. And in case you didn't know, the reason for the change interval is primarily due to filter life. Not oil life - it's probably going to test within acceptable range even if you let it go a full 10k (which I don't recommend at all).

Second problem - how are you going to know how much oil was present and how much you've removed? It's very possible you might not suction the full capacity that would drain when the plug is removed from the pan, and then what .. you only put back what you removed and you have a mix of old and new oil? Or you overfill?

Sorry- A direct answer for you=
If you don’t have the drive to remove that shield underneath the vehicle, don’t do the oil change yourself. Taking that shield off takes about 5 minutes/maybe less.
Same with putting it back on.
Let the dealer do it. As other people have already said, there are many good reasons to have them do it anyway.

It’s always a good idea to replace the oil filter. Especially the first one. I cut em open and check for metal shavings. Kinda messy but goves me piece of mind.

Which is cheaper? The filter or the engine?

Depends if there is a baffle under the dipstick area. I don't know on the 2.0 Maverick. I tried to do the extraction method on my 2.7 F150, wouldn't work because it had a baffle, not allowing the extraction tube to go all the way to the bottom of the pan.

As far as changing the filter every other time, that's a standard OEM service practice for most Honda products. I personally don't do that on my Honda's, nor would I do it for the Mav, but if you're a short-term owner, probably an easy way to save a few bucks.

Here’s how I look at not changing the filter. I imagine ANYthing with fluid in it. Let’s take a silly example: Imagine you have a one gallon milk container. It’s filled with dirty oil and you want to have it filled with clean oil.
Would you pour out 3.5 quarts and leave a 1/2 quart of the dirty oil, then top it off with 3.5 quarts on new oil?? I wouldn’t. I’d want allllll the dirty oil out. Then I’d fill it with all new oil.
The filter in a vehicle holds oil. It also catches a lot of the bad stuff circulating in the old oil.
You really should l change the filter every time you change the oil. If you afforded the truck, you should be able to afford a new filter!!
Keeping the old one is penny wise and pound foolish.
If you’re not keeping the truck long enough to care, just change it a few days before you get rid of it.
That’s my 2Ā¢
šŸ˜€
Of course it’s your truck, your money and your choice. I respect that

I have a tremor so it is a little taller compared to most Mavericks but I had room to change the oil with out jacking up the truck. I cant do this on my car because it is way too low so I use ramps, but the extra ground clearance of a truck make it possible with out ramps or jack-stands.
