I am certain heat extractors are helpful - in sports car especially.
“I don’t know” was aimed at not knowing your opinion. Sorry for confusion?
All good.

Sports cars that have vents that are designed to extract heat are irrelevant to the discussion. I understand that you believe yours are doing something beneficial for cooling to the tune of "5++ degrees". From what I've read here, I don't know why you believe that. That is all.

Where do you think that heat would be going if the vents weren't there? Do you think it would just be "stuck" in the engine bay with the fan pressurizing it? Again, air coming out of the vents isn't an indication that the air wouldn't exit the engine bay via some other route.

People sometimes want to believe in something to the point that logic is thrown out the window, and in actuality there's no data to support a conclusion or estimate.
Exactly this.

Follow up data of 450 F under hood temps before adding vents is fabricated, as every type of plastic used in cars melts below 450 F.

On the flip side, most sports cars don’t have side vents, because they don’t need them. 760 hp Shelby GT 500? No side vents. 650 hp ZL1 Camaro? No side vents. 800 hp Hellcat Redeye? No side vents. Venting the heat out the bottom and back of the engine bay is adequate. Engineering tests have proven it.

I’m modeling my Lobo based on F1 “side pods” fyi. Thank you for your input though!

The ouside of an EcoBoost turbo routinely get above 1000 degree Fahrenheit. I’m going to push mine to 1500 degrees her in the desert.

Of course Ford uses extensive heat shielding and high temp plastics where appropriate. My vent might heat up to 175 degrees if left in the summer AZ sun, so I’ll be careful or my 3M sticky tape will melt! :)

So you’re saying I should abandon my quest for putting heat extraction vents in the hood also? :)
No, no it looks too friggin cool not to do.
But where I live I’d prolly cover it in the dead of winter.
Letting a little extra heat out from under the hood, the engine compartment will not do anything for the engine. In the summer.
I’d be more concerned with additional cabin wind noise.

Go for it !
Then update us.

The painted metal behind the screen. I’m thinking a different color. Maybe match the brake calipers.
This just might look really cool.
Or,
A colored LED back in there somewhere.

I’m curious, what year was that? 1,600 lb VW Beetles and 2,200 lb VW busses were imported to California starting in 1949/1950 and the California DMV never banned them. If there was such a standard, it would be from the DMV, not the CHP.
Late '50s/early '60s. I'm talking about the standard CHP used to buy CHP patrol cars. CHP wouldn't buy a car under that weight. They actually rigged the specs so they could buy Dodges.

It had nothing to do with what cars Californians could buy.

Wow thanks!
So besides cooling the engine bay, my side vents help relieve pressure from building up in the fender wells which aids overall in the reduction of aerodynamic drag. Wow, my Maverick is thermally cooler AND more aero.

This Cobra not only has side vents - but has the hood removed. I probably won’t go that far…

Placement of the vents on cars such as the GTD is determined by wind-tunnel testing, not by stylists. Your Maverick also has four wheels, same as the GTD! And a windshield and headlights! It's a super-high-performance vehicle!

I agree with you that the Ford Maverick’s functional vents are more stylish than the GTD’s. Especially the fins!

Hello Toddman45. I live in the Clearwater/Saint Petersburg city areas. The area is SO dense with woefully inadequate urban roadway infrastructure. Every single day there are multiple crashes, many of them resulting in serious to fatal human consequences. I think this directional strobing side marker you have on your vehicle could only help to possibly reduce some of these crashes by adding an increased warning signal for displaying directional intention. Do you have a walk thru video install video, ‘for dummies’ showing the install?
