My wife has a 24 escape awd hybrid. Very nice vehicle and a different vehicle than my 24 xlt hybrid. Both average 48+ mpg in 70% city driving. Escape is nicer inside but should be as it cost 6k more.

Counter-argument to that is the hybrid F-150 is more utilizing the hybrid for low-end torque rather than fuel efficiency
And, boy oh boy, does it do that!

It is the only turbo that I have ever driven without a noticeable lag from the turbo (and I include the 2.0 Maverick in that "unsatisfying" collection).

It "cheats" by using the electric motor to fill the gap.

In fact, the computer has to limit the electric, as full power in the gap would exceed what the 10R100 transmission can handle!

Anyway, that forum has quite similar time on electric, etc., discussions to here.

I would have been interested in a PHEV, especially if it was my only vehicle. But after 10 years I kind of got burned out with an crossover. So I went back to a sedan and added a Maverick last month.

But there were several options for PHEV, including the Escape, if I had gone that route.

Enjoy.

I have a buddy that has a 2024 Powerboost F150 Hybrid and boy does that thing move. I think he likes it a little too much though as I noticed his MPG per the onboard computer said 15 something the last time I was in it, lol.

The Escape PHEV is competing with the RAV4 PHEV plus there is that battery recall issue that hopefully doesn't affect the 2025s. I almost bought one last year, but it's still not a truck, as others have pointed out. Plus do I really have to spend $400+ for a trailer hitch receiver for this thing? It needs one, if you don't already own a truck. Crazy...

Don't fault you one bit...the new Escapes are a very nice vehicle and everyone I know with one loves theirs

In the grand tradition of MTC I am making my farewell (for now) post. This one will be a little different as I am not here to dump on the Maverick. I had no problems with my ā€˜23 for the year and a half I had it. I really had no thought of getting rid of it until last week.

The idea of a ā€˜25 crossed my mind so for grins I checked what Carvana would give me for my Mav. I was shocked that I could get more than I paid OTD. Then the idea of a new one became very real.

I went to my dealer the next day to check them out and see what they would give on trade. They would give me what I paid but the new Mavs are quite a bit more. Then my guy, knowing I’m always looking for a good deal, told me the best deal was on the ’25 Escape PHEV for Ford A/Z plan buyers. The Escape plug-in hybrid I purchased has a sticker of $39895. With the A/Z plan stack of incentives, I got it for $28220 out the door. I don’t blame you if you don’t believe me because I still can’t believe it. After my trade it cost me $1400.

For that $1400 I gained:
new 3 year warranty
dual zone climate control
intelligent access with push button start
remote start
adaptive cruise control
BLIS with rear cross-traffic braking
evasive steering assist
intersection assist
lane keeping system
rear parking sensors
heated steering wheel
heated seats
fog lights
one touch up and down power windows front and rear
sync 4 with 13.2ā€ capacitive touch screen
Wireless Carplay
power driver’s seat
plug-in hybrid system with 35 miles of electric only driving

For the money, with the pile of incentives on this, it is a much nicer vehicle. I know it’s not a truck. I really didn’t need a truck when I got the Maverick. I got it for its inexpensive price.

I really liked my Maverick but the I am beyond ecstatic with the deal I got on the Escape.

Sounds similar to why I sold my Tremor and bought a 25 lariat hybrid.

I paid around $2200 more, and I kept a Mav!

Ahh. Fair. I forgot about the hybrid F-150.

Counter-argument to that is the hybrid F-150 is more utilizing the hybrid for low-end torque rather than fuel efficiency. The EPA rating on that is pretty abysmal for a hybrid last time I checked.
And it’s not AWD it’s 4WD so your point endures.

Escape has better discounts upfront, but does not hold value like a Maverick. Depreciation is pretty rapid. Good luck with your new ride though! Back seat room is better.

When I was in the market at the end of 2024, certain regions had the 24s for sub $25K, and that was the PHEV. They still didn't move very quickly. It's a lot of bang for the buck at those prices though.

Nobody in there right mind would turn down that deal. That shows the Maverick was the best car deal you ever made, and you'll take about it forever! Never before was there a vehicle you could own for years, and get all you paid for it back when it was time for something new.

Although the tame Escape can't compare to the characterful Maverick, it makes sense considering everything you're gaining. All those advanced safety features/creature comforts and with over $10K off the price, it's like, how can you not? Think of it this way, you're still driving a Maverick in spirit. They're all based on the same platform anyway. It's essentially driving a more luxurious version of it, but without a bed, of course.
