I can relate to him thinking too big. At 79 when I placed my order I decided to make the maverick do! I had waited for a replacement for my chev luv which was bigger than my 1967 Datsun pickup I sold in 1991. The maverick is about the same size a full size pickup was in 1991!.
The Mav is within an inch or two of the 70's F100 in length, width and height. Anything bigger is just compensating for things like poor bed design or the driver having too small of a package.

I miss seeing those old Datsun pickups! Last Datsun car I saw was probably 1989, I want to say?
I too had a Datsun. Great vehicle for 2 years, but it rusted away faster than you would believe possible.

I’ve sold the Maverick back to the dealer I bought it from - for more than I paid for it. I got to drive a cool vehicle for 6 months without it costing me anything. But it’s too big and I don’t need a truck.

My first time owning a hybrid, I learned a lot about the technology (much of it from MTC members). The big advantage of the hybrid is the ability to capture at least some of the kinetic energy lost when slowing plus being able to use an efficient Atkinson cycle ICE. But you seem to have to drag along a lot of extra ā€˜stuff’ to make this work.
Three cooling systems? Even the DC/DC converter requires cooling – makes me think we are still losing a lot of energy to heat.

Back to driving my Mazda CX-3 – nice compact crossover, good to be able to throw stuff in the back and close the hatch!

Things I’ll miss about the Mav – being able to hit the ā€˜Ready’ button and glide away silently, using the ā€˜L’ button to slow and being able to recapture at least some of the kinetic energy (I think it should be called something different, mounted on the steering wheel and illuminate the brake lights). Of course, the great city gas milage, the Mazda gets about the same on the highway.

Things I notice on the Mazda – the security of a hatch, a ā€˜proper’ shifter (I use it a lot, downshifting to slow, neutral when stopped etc.) and it gives me somewhere to hang my cap! ā€˜Brake hold’ releases smoothly without the lurch on the MAV.

Most of all I’ll miss being part of the MTC – a great enthusiastic group of Maverick owners (and yet to be owners), thanks for keeping me entertained during the 18 month wait for delivery and thanks for the help, advice and discussions.
Congratulations on a great buy-back deal! I still have my Volt (and my RAM and my Tacoma) in case this hybrid dream I am loving turns into the nightmare I am fearing. Most of my fears turns out to be based on dealers and their so-called service departments. I'm nervous living with the ALERT it's had since day one (Blind Spot Detection) and the "Your Maverick May Burst Into Flames (but we don't know how to fix it cheap) recall. I'm glad you like your spare!

The maverick is about the same size a full size pickup was in 1991!.
After owning three Rangers (1985, 1994 and 2008). The Maverick is just a little wider.
Height is just about the same as the 2008 (stock not 4x4). But, 2 feet longer.
The 2019 Ranger, I was thinking about getting, (Thank God I didn't) is the same size as was my 1977 F-100..

For ME, My MAV is a Ranger, just newer.. :ROFLMAO:

I agree about the truck being too big. It's not a small truck like small trucks in the past.

On the Hybrid Brake Hold feature: When you're ready to start moving again; to eliminate the lurch, just tap the go pedal once, then press the pedal to actually "go." Works smoothly, and no delay waiting on a starter to fire up an ICE.
