Yes but unless the APIM unit also has the tuner you are back to the Ford OEM kit sold by siriusxm.
If you want sat radio, all you need is an ACM with a sat antenna connection. That said, something like that with an integrated APIM like what is in XL and XLTs doesn’t exist meaning you will need to swap in a Sync 3 APIM with a sat radio ready ACM.

Yes or get a tour360 unit which is what I happen to use on the XL. I wanted to have the satellite work on the ACM screen so I could change stations and such using the steering wheel controls but this works for now. If you guys get the APIM thing working I'll probably do it as long as I don't decide to trade this one in next year for a 2023.

Yeah, I do not understand the $299 price for adding a tuner module. The cost to manufacture can't be much more than the Commander Touch that I bought from Amazon for $47.95. Still wish I could find a Harman CTR with the SDARS connection and is a SiriusXM ready ACM.

I am going to have to partially walk back the APIM being in the XL and XLT models. The parts catalogs all say that regardless of trim there is an APIM module in the Maverick, same one as on 2020 - 2023 Mustangs for example. The difference they claim is whether SYNC is enabled by what head unit is installed on the Mavericks.

The As built data for XL and XLT Mavericks (I ran about 10 different VINs in multiple config packages) all come back the same showing no programmable registers in the 7D0-xx-xx range which is reserved for APIM modules.

So next I started pulling out my audio head unit on an XL and there is no APIM connected to the back of it. Just a wire going to maybe a non programmable or needs to be programmed differently for connected touch radio software type of APIM or some new as of yet undisclosed module for connected touch radio setups that forscan doesn't have functionality to access as of yet. I didn't want to rip apart the center console any further to find out.

I do know this much when I pulled the plug from the head unit the radio turned on to the last station I had on the head unit with the key out of the ignition. It has some sort of tuner independent of the head unit, just what it is I don't know.

I need to get a wiring diagram from a shop manual and/or the Ford IDS software to query the system to see what is there and if there is programming access to it.

Thanks for your confirming research. I would love to have any wiring diagrams available.

So just a little tease of what @propp2531 and I have been working on….

Ford Maverick No APIM in XLT and below (Unable to upgrade Sync) 21A7F213-0F38-4621-B8CD-125814EF51BF

Yes that is Sync 4.
Yes that is a Maverick XL that it is installed in.

No it is not fully functional, yet…. This was just the first boot/proof of concept. Next up is working on the As Built data to get everything functional.

I have purchased a 2020 explorer police interceptor and the ACM is exactly like this on in the MAV, there is no APIM in the police model and it has a small 4" screen. What my plan is, I will swap a mav ACM into the explorer and find a 8" screen from a regular explorer and that should theoretically get me to the larger screen but I am in the same boat without sirius XM. I wonder what other fords may have this similar setup, possibly only fleet models that may have XM capability. I know ford does not provide updates for these units but does anyone know if it is possible to update the software on them? I have a couple ACMs laying around 1 from a bronco sport w/HD radio B&O and one from a 2020 escape that just has xm. I wonder if any parts of those can be swapped in?

Adding to an older thread, as it was the only one with 'FM2" hit...

Trying to understand why the FM reception is AWFUL on my XLT. Noticed on the SYNC2 system there is an FM2 antenna connection. Has anyone eyeballed the control unto verify whether anything is connected to that? If yes, where is FM2 located, or where would it HAVE been located?
