I just read this at Autoblog. It is a furtherance to the original article about Ford crushing Santa Cruz sales.

It will be interesting if it comes to fruition and may even cause some consternation at FORD HEADQUARTERS, considering their current growing sales numbers.

Cheers,

Andy

I doubt they'll launch anything. The Maverick was first leaked as an upcoming product just over 5 years ago. That's plenty of time to come up with a competitor.

Or they were just seeing how popular the two small trucks are. Toyota isn't known for rushing into things, and is likely losing RAV4 and Tacoma sales to the Maverick Hybrid, not something they will want. It wouldn't take much for them to make a RAV4 based unibody truck. Remember the new RAV4 platform just launched for MY25, so it makes perfect sense for them to make a move for MY26. Launching a competitor on the old RAV4 platform would have been a waste of resources with that in mind.

I am looking forward to 11 August, as Ford is supposed to be coming out with a momentous press release about their new affordable EV line their skunkworks has been working on, in California, for several years at least..

They will have to up their game and maybe this will let us see if they are heading in the right direction. Or not.

I am also interested to see if Toyota will be offering a plug-in hybrid small truck with approx 60 miles of battery range. That is going in a direction that I like, for sure.

That would quite possibly get Fords nickers in a knot if that comes to pass.

Interesting times and things to watch for, to see if these information releases turn out to be real.

One other factor in whether they'll be a real competitor is whether they'll be in the same price range. Having that rounded 'T' on the front adds several $K over comparable vehicles. There is brand loyalty to consider and many will pay the extra to get a Toyota, but if Ford can keep their price point down, they may still have an edge. (Huh, just learned they discontinued the Edge last year.)

I'm not interested in a "Rav 4 with a bed". I don't like the styling. I'd have taken something a little more like the stout concepts for looks. I want my truck to look like a truck (even a small one), not an SUV someone took a reciprocating saw to.

I seen at least 20M of those rumors on YouTube and other places ever since the maverick came out, I been in latin américa and few manufacturers have small pickups on those markets but never bring it here, now days I even seen those (old imported) almost K-truck around from time to time. I want few companies bringing competition to the maverick, we need them fighting over us, not us fighting or paying over msrp to a single company because they're the only one on the market. On my área 2025 XL are on 34-39k, yes 39k for a XL, that 7k shy of a Ridgeline with leather+ vented seats, awd, adaptive cruise control, sunroof etc, yes the maverick lariat on my area is basically the same price of RTL Ridgeline (with lifetime warranty and 5 years of oil changes included on the price), there's no competition for the convenience and versatility of the maverick, the price was great too, but is becoming not such a bargain in some markets.

Toyota and honda small suv's based trucks ? BRING THEM ALL PLEASE.

I think Toyota is being more careful than ford was, I'll bet somewhere in Japan or some hidden warehouse theres a small pickup being tested, it would be a disaster for them to rush manufacturing a truck that has as many recalls as the Maverick had in the beginning. I think the next 6 months we will see more new vehicles pop up.
