My 2024 XLT 2.0 eco boost AWD does not have sport mode either or eco mode, just tow/haul, normal, slippery, sand, mud/ruts. Or am I missing something?

Oh....so you didn't think it was import to mention you have the FX4 option?

SO yeah you are right. You don't have sport mode.
I'm not here to argue with anyone I've only had this truck for 6 days the Manual is not exactly clear on a lot of things. I don't want to damage it or void warranty, I'm 73 this is the most expensive vehicle I have ever owned it replaces a 100000 mile 2014 2.7 Tacoma that was still running like a Swiss watch...and never gave any issues sold it to my niece for 4 grand it will last another 100000 miles will the Maverick? , I went to Ford because Toyota abandoned their entire Tacoma and Tundra customer base with the crap features nobody wanted. and couldn't even make a new reliable V6....The Maverick has had some pretty good reviews and a fairly decent price. I just want to drive it without any serious issues.... The only thing I did was put a tank of 93 Sunoco and most of the hesitation and sluggishness disappeared and milage jumped 3 MPG and the engine was more responsive hmm? i seem to member reading the 2 liter eco boost had like 10 to 13 compression ratio, and that usually requires decent octane, playing with timing and other factors ain't the best way to do it....There is nothing I can do on the Maverick as under hood looks like an electrician's and plumbers nightmare, in fact it is totally intimidating to me as I started with old fashioned points and mechanical distributor ignition and leaded gas... If I offend anybody I apologize.. I am just a wee bit terrified of all the complexity,,...

Yes it does....and like others have already mentioned what you are experiencing is called turbo lag.
I'm familiar with turbo lag when power comes on as the turbo spools up. I would describe it as no response at all (dead spot) for 1 or 2 seconds then zoom as you continue to mash on the go pedal. It is like the engine stopped and restarted while taking off from a stop, most noticeable when making a turn after a stop. I need to get in a habit of turning start/stop off and see if that makes any difference. Strange I haven't noticed it going straight after a stop. IDK why that would matter other than I'm lite on the throttle making turns at stops.

Ah, I remember setting up the old dual points on the distributor of the old Camaro, Fun!

It's not that it lacks power but sort of hesitates on acceleration mostly when taking off on turns running 87 octane, I think its the 87 octane. Brand new only 360 miles on it would 91 or higher octane fix this?
Never had this problem, always pumped Ethyl.

The newer 2.0 EB has a relatively small twin scroll turbo. Turbo lag should be the last problem it has.
More than likely the transmission was trying to maximize fuel economy and tried to use a higher gear than it should.
My wife’s 19 Escape 2.0 EB has a 6 speed with a much more lively shifting schedule. It also gets on average a couple of miles per gallon less than my FX4.

been reading articles and seems that the eco 2. liter does just not like low octane less than 91 the only reason it runs 87 at all is not to scare away people who are too cheap to buy 91 or higher....

Try using 'sport' mode to see if it makes any difference.
I agree, the eco boost is a bit slow off the line.
Yep, the hesitation doesn't completely go away but the acceleration after that is pretty good. Sport mode does add some oomph to it also.

I don't know what articles you are reading, but I've had my truck for more than a year and always use 87 octane. The truck scoots just fine when you roll on the throttle. I'm not drag racing it or autocrossing it. Its a utilitarian vehicle, not a sports car. Around me, 93 octane fuel is at least 60c more per gallon. There is no 91 option here. Its not a matter of being cheap either. I've owned many cars that "required premium" and that was fine. The Maverick doesn't require it unless you absolutely need those extra few rated HP. I have found it to be perfectly happy with 87. As your transmission learns your driving patters, I think if you fill your next few tanks with 87, you won't notice any difference.

Yeah I’ve been running 87 octane for the two years or so that I’ve had my maverick, that shouldn’t be the problem or the solution to the throttle response issues discussed

specific things:
- this is a drive-by-wire system, there is no mechanical link to the throttle plate, it helps to think about throttle input as an “acceleration request” that is interpreted by the computer systems
- cold engine and cold transmission do seem to have a cautious feel to them that goes away once warmed up, first gear in particular
- shifting from reverse to drive seems to have a throttle input limiter to protect the drive train
- Sport Mode is not available on FX4, that’s been replaced by the mud & ruts/sand traction modes. it changes up throttle response and shift points to be more aggressive
- the auto start/stop could be part of what folks are experiencing, if I am waiting to turn onto a busy road I will disable it so that the engine is on and transmission in gear and rolling as soon as I lift off the brake pedal

Mine does this too. I am pretty sure it is a combination of the engine RPM and transmission programming. Probably a little turbo lag too. I run 91/93 octane most of the time. I also have a stop/start eliminator installed
If you change to sport mode you will see the idle RPM increase. This will lessen turbo lag and it changes the transmission programing. In sport mode there is no hesitation.
What is ironic is when I put it in eco mode and drive easy it also works better. Go figure. 🙄

Well maybe in your case but within 5 miles of driving with 93 octane most of my issues are gone or minimized. I have the FX Maverick w all wheel drive and eco boost 2 liter there is no sports mode. Now when i hit the gas there is almost no sluggishness. My take is the eco boost only runs at 87 is so cheap people would buy it. It probably is not really meant to run on 87 octane, Now it growls when on 87 it whimpered.....

I quoted both of you as I think each of you mentioned something about hesitation and a weird feeling when turning from a stop. IMO it has more to do with the transmission and programming. Sport mode really changes up the feel and response of the vehicle. It does not feel like some b.s. mode added for the hell of it. Many times my truck feels "sluggish" for a slight period of time when coasting around a turn on a side street and I attribute that to the transmission upshifting. The 8 speed tastes some time before you are used to it.
