Picked it up a month ago and it is my first Hybrid. I was wondering if it can be set to use just electric until it gets down to a level? Would be nice to do that when all the driving is in town only. Hope to learn a lot from this forum, TIA. JB.

Welcome to the Maverick club. And nice ride.

Unfortunately there is no way to keep the truck in ā€œelectric onlyā€. It’s based entirely on how much charge is left in the battery in relation to how much power you are using while driving (speed, acceleration, AC/heater, etc.)

Unlike some other hybrids, the Maverick doesn’t show % charge in the battery. All you can go by is the ā€œcoachā€ window where it has energy bars that show you how close you’re getting until the gas engine kicks in. That’s about it.

Good day and congrats on your new Maverick!

Answer to your query, no, there is no setting for electric only as the drive (or high voltage) battery is far too small for that.

If you are getting out on a faster road almost immediately, it might be advisable to get the ice runn9ng immediately so it is warmed up and lubricated before getting toothe faster road.

In the city I use the eco setting and encourage battery use by speeding up normally and then ease off the gas to slip into electrical drive. Doing this you can do 50-60+ mpg in stop and go traffic.

To max out battery usage for the last few miles before I get home I can do 50 kph or 31 mph and run down the battery by the time I get home...this will really show a big improvement in fuel mileage. And encourage the engine to start as soon as you need to go out again. So the ice is ready in a couple miles when I reach the highway north of town.

The sweet spot for electric drive is below say....50mph or 90kph, where you get up to speed and then coast at speed limit to encourage electric drive (surge and glide) or something like that is spoken often and I do that as well.

This is a start, so have fun!

Andy

Remote start it so the battery is charged in cooler weather, the ICE will run for heat anyway so might as well let it idle first and get into a warm truck. Get up to speed on the ICE engine and then let off the throttle for a just a moment and ease back on to kick it into EV mode. Turn on the EV coach so you can see what's going on. Make sure you stay inside the regenerative braking threshold so you don't waste energy using the brake pads unnecessarily. On good days you will see 50-60mpg in town.

The only way I know to keep it on electric is to go easy on the throttle and keep the speed down. Maybe there will be a plug-in Maverick in the future but right now it's a mild hybrid with still pretty great mpg for a truck.

Damn I’m glad I got an Eco, I’m too old to understand half of all this hybrid stuff (no patience). Besides, I still like instant acceleration. šŸ˜‰

Have not received anything on the recalls.
We haven't had any recalls yet either (2025 Maverick Hybrid, brought home 25 Jan 2025) and the last update was in September.

Maybe they are saving them (if there are any by then) for when my spring oil change and tire swap is booked in mid April.

2025+ Hybrid hangs with the Ecoboost 0-30, just loses the peak HP war at 50mph+.

Accelerate as you please, ease off and back on once at speed, & brake gently. That's all it takes.

You can't just drive using the battery. It's a hybrid that combines both electric, and gas switching the gas on as needed.

That traction motor will give instant acceleration for as much torque as it has, no downshifting, no throttle.
