I received a 2022 Mav with Eco Boost engine in late March. Ran fine for a week and now won't start after sitting overnight. I have had it not start in the morning then work fine by late morning once it's warmed up.

I'm in Montana and the nights have typically been in the 20s and 30s. Have taken to the dealership and they replaced the battery, didn't fix the issue. Then they replaced the starter, didn't work. If I keep the engine block plugged in it seems to fix the issue, but obviously I don't want to have to always have it plugged in.

Any ideas what this could be?

I've seen mentions where the wiring harness or connections could be an issue. A search of the forum might help you find them. Look for dead batteries or won't start. That's all I've got. Hope you get a good resolution to your issue!

Does it crank but not fire, or completely dead and not crank?

Just based on your failed attempts so far, I would look at reflashing the PCM, sounds like it may be a battery management bug.

Yeah, a little more context on how it is not starting would be helpful. I had a similar problem with my current vehicle when I first purchased it, started randomly not starting, all the lights came on, I could hear the fuel pump, it just wouldn't turn over.

I took it in twice and they couldn't get it to reproduce the issue, as I was getting in my car to leave the dealership the second time it actually did it. I ran inside to grab the tech to show him it was "doing the thing". He tried it and couldn't get it to turnover. They give me a loaner and keep it another day.

Turns out it was the security system, my keys were keyed just enough enough off from the system that it sometimes didn't recognize the key and wouldn't start. They reprogrammed the system and 130k later and no issues .

Weird thing about it, I made it 10k miles before it ever did it and it did it for the first time in January, when it was cold out.

Could be something to have them check 🤷‍♂️

All the lights and radio will turn on but otherwise it's dead and doesn't turn over.

That's interesting. I left it at the dealership overnight because same thing, it worked fine when I was there two other times. They finally got it to act up on them and thought it was a failed starter. Nope.

This weekend, first thing in the morning it didn't start. Lights come on, radio works but the truck doesn't turn over. Later in the afternoon it was fine. Then once it cooled back down early evening again wouldn't turn. I've had the engine block heater plugged in since and haven't had an issue with it starting.

I will mention this to the dealership guys and see if that works. Thanks!

Hey there! I would like to take a closer look at your Maverick's starting issues. Could you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer?

Sorta like my garage door opener remote weak battery in remote sometimes opener won't work. Are you physically inserting key or is it radio connected, I assume it is this way. Did you have metal keys and or lot of coins in pocket with it, may be blocking signal?

My 1997 Ford Ranger just gave one click awhile ago, thought it was battery but needed a new starter. After new starter installed it did it again a few days later. It was a wire coming off starter/solenoid making contact with engine block & shorted out fuse. Luckily I have a manual transmission so popped the clutch to get it to garage.

If it is not cranking when cold out and the battery has been replaced, I would suspect a bad ground. Check the various grounds where they attach to body and engine, make sure they are clean and tight and don't have paint overspray or something preventing them from making good contact.

Or something like a brake light switch on the pedal that serves as an interlock.....

Just for kicks, try pushing down really hard on the brake pedal and try to start. Make sure the gearshift knob is fully in park.

This is a K.I.S.S. type of issue.

Doesn't start:
1. Check that battery.
2. Battery good/ jump start the truck then check the charging.
3 First two are good, then check for something drawing power when off.

Ever get an answer from Ford? I just had this issue. Turn the key, won't turn over. Not even cranking, but all the panels and infotainment screen work.

Waited a minute and it turned over. I'm thinking the starter is going out because of the auto start/stop. But, I'm not a tech.
