Hi all! I've been lurking for quite a while but decided to register and hopefully get some feedback from you all about the Maverick.

I'm planning on ordering a 2.0 AWD XL (Hot Pepper Red) with the 360 and 4k tow. Primary use case is as somewhat of an outdoors vehicle. Plan to tow a small boat (17 ' skiff) and haul stuff for hunting. Always plan to eventually install a lift and better tires to take it out on the NC beaches for some surf fishing.

My question for you all is, is there anything else you would recommend adding to this build from the factory? I understand a lot of the accessories can be added after the fact, but wondering if there are those that cannot (e.g., the locking bed rails).

I'm not currently in a rush to buy, so I'm also wondering if it makes sense to wait for a refresh and see what is offered then? Last question- if anyone know of a non-slimy dealer near Raleigh, NC I would greatly appreciate the suggestion!

Thank you!

I do not have any recommendations, as it sounds like that's a good setup for what you're intending to do. However, XL orders have been cut off for MY24 as of mid-October, so you'll be waiting on the refresh for now either way unless you're looking to upgrade to XLT or Lariat. You might be able to shop around in a few months and find a dealer that is getting dealer stock, though I don't know how many XLs will be readily availalbe even then.

Haha I definitely considered that, but I need the 4k towing capacity.
If you definitely need the towing, might I suggest that the Maverick might not be the vehicle for you especially if you plan to do any moderate off roading.

I love my Tremor but you might be better served by a 2024 Taco, or any mid-size for that matter - Taco, Ranger, Colorado.

EDIT: Again - I absolutely love my Tremor - but if I could get the same creature comforts (yes my XLT Lux has them), AWD, and locker in a mid-size ladder frame for around $40k I would have made that jump all day.

Unfortunately my Colorado Trail Boss rang in at 44,100 and had a plastic wheel, shit interior, zero comforts, and abhorrent MPG,....and less interior space than my Tremor.

But it could tow like a full size!!!!

Not really planning on any serious towing or off roading, just towing to the boat ramp nearby and some light beach driving to access fishing spots. Mostly an around town vehicle otherwise, just want that added capability.

I've spent some on on the NC coast - I would not want to be out on the beach, nor would I want to be on a boat ramp - without a rear locker.

And there is going to be a chorus of folks to chime in and say I'm wrong, and 90-95% of the time they might be right - but nobody misses a rear locker (or added capability) until you need it.

If you're really only going to be towing the skiff and relatively short distances - I would still recommend a Tremor from the factory with the lift and rear locker - and then I would add an after market trailer brake controller and 7-pin wiring harness vs. going with a 4K pkg and adding a lift and tires.

Just my $0.02.

Good luck!!!!

Would the trailer brake controller increase the 2k towing capacity?

No it won't - nothing will increase what Ford says it can handle BUT from most reports all we can tell is that the Tremor has a smaller intercooler that causes the reduction but if you are only towing a short distance on relatively flat surfaces (around Raleigh for sure) then the trailer brake would absolutely reduce the stress on a Tremor.

Again - this is assuming you are only towing a skiff that would max out around 3k lbs.

I really think that you would be best served by a mid-size with rear locker - but again, I'm resolute that a truck that tows has a rear locker. Understand the that there is a significant price gap there (how I ended up with my Tremor) so if you can get away with the Maverick that is a good choice.

Think there’s a typo in your original post: Always plan to eventually install a life and better tires to take it out on the NC beaches for some surf fishing…,, Install a life(?) did you mean light?

If you’re going to be on sandy beaches, consider adding the FX4 package. The FX4 package includes various drive modes “Sand”, “Slippery”, “Mud / Ruts”, etc.

I really like my Moon Roof but that’s just a matter of personal taste. You may or may not want to spend the extra money to the Lux package, I like having it but again it’s a matter of budget and personal preference.

full size spare. Don't expect much out of a refresh except maybe new Sync screen.
Currently, the smaller "full size spare" is part of the 360 package along with power mirrors.

The moon roof and the Lux package are not available on the XL.

Do a lot of beach? Tremor. And there's a good chance you will get your build much faster.

Not sure what your budget is given you were looking at ordering an XL but you should check this one out:

I was working out a deal with him to buy this one until I had a dealer agree to below MSPR for a new 2023 Hybrid. He's in Apex so it's worth checking out and he was looking to sell before the holidays so worth the conversation.
