Never Again Ford! 2022 Maverick needs a new transmission

Sometimes I feel like it's just luck (or lack thereof) of the draw. You can maintain the crap out of a vehicle, follow even scheduled fluid change, and keep EVERY scheduled bit of maintenance and stuff just still breaks...

Additional information...I did buy and finance the vehicle used, but the warranty was still good. I took the truck in to the dealer on a previous recall (one of many) and complained of a vibration at hwy speeds. They said they could find nothing. I thought it was new tires out of balance and took it into the tire shop twice. And that was all done while the warranty was still good. Yes...a new transmission is cheaper than a new car. But it's very disappointing given my Tiguan was just about perfect and given that I really wanted to give American made cars a chance. I know 2022 was the first year of the Mavrick, but the Tiguan I owned was the first year production model of that line. I've also had problems with the entertainment system wigging out and a persistent vibration in the dash. No vibrations in the Tiguan even after 130K miles.

Mexico is in North America so I guess it tracks.

I did a transmission flush at 45,000 miles on my 2022 XLT. I did it after reading a lot about it on MTC. My Ford service rep said I did the right thing and right now at 55,000, will be 5 years old in Nov. Yes, it has had all the recalls but no major issues. Old school - change oil, rotate tires every 5,000.

Maybe he bought it used? I would get a shop to install a used transmission from a wrecked Maverick, should be less then a dealer would charge.

Just found out from Autonation Ford here in Mobile that my 2022 Maverick needs a new transmission for over $10,000. Apparently one of the gears has gone and there's metal in the transmission fluid. Warranty has expired and I still owe money on that car. I hope people read this and bypass buying any Ford product.

Sorry that happened. Definitely get an Independent opinion. I had a dealer want to charge me $7500 to replace a turbo on my Duramax. Got it done elsewhere for $4200. Yes I have a 2026 maverick and hope this doesn't occur. Yikes

Yes — me too. I had flush and fluid change at 30,000 miles. 50,000 miles later, transmission died.

I read all the replies to this post, but the one question I have is, if the transmission oil was changed according to the Ford requirements, Who changed it, and what oil did they put in? Todays "fix it" shops, hire whoever they can, for help. That's why I have the dealership do all my maintenance until I hit around 50K miles, costs more, but safier.

Sorry to hear about the transmission failure. And many other reads of the same on here. Although I feel like another poster on this chat that it is luck of the draw unfortunately. Not one vehicle in this world is 100% predictable or perfect. I've had some really shitty cars and I've had some really good ones. Even the good ones will give you a surprise once in awhile. I used to be diehard GM but my 2012 Impala LTZ that I bought used as an ex rental, was nickel and diming me. Put enough of a bad taste in my mouth to go back to an Elantra. And so many folks have had horror stories about those. I myself now have had 2 Elantras, one bought new in 2005 (9yrs and 150k miles) and a 2017 bought used in 2020 (totaled last summer with 112k) and both were very dependable cars It's very unfortunate for sure that you are having this issue. I hope you find a better deal than 10k for the transmission. Hopefully it'll hold out for you long enough to pay it off or unload it on someone else. Good luck.

There is a 5 year 60K power train warranty. Are you over 60K?

You have that right. Dealers also sometimes hire hacks but there is some recourse with a dealer. A hack shop just closes and starts up under a different name.

Sorry to hear you have no warranty and this is outta pocket... but I had my 22 fixed 5 times. 2 of them were complete replacements
