What you use it for is entirely up to you.
It will hold almost anything you can think of that will fit. Credit card, national parks pass, some parking passes, parking lot issued tickets..... Etc.

In case you are wondering. There is a bottom to it, that is as far in as my parks pass will go.

My son told me it was a “Poverty Slot” because I was too poor to get the options that would go there. Haha

I use mine for our gate access card. We live in a gated retirement community. If the gate is not manned, I can just pull my card out to use the card reader.

Technically, it's a slot.
That's where you put credit cards when you want them shredded.

What is this slot?

Yep - like many others are calling it, this slot/slit is to hold things like parking lot tickets, gate cards, etc. I use mine to hold my work access badge. It's really handy!

It holds three sticks of blackjack gum. Unwrapped!!!! Oh, by the way it is a slit, no doubt about that. That's my vote!!! I did not have it in my 22. Used it then about as much as I use it now!!!
