I am disputing that there is a (sizable) delay in pressing the brake peddle and the brake lights coming on. Easy to test methinks.
Oh I apologize, I thought you were questioning the validity of the theory that a delay in brake lights coming on could cause a rear end accident. Have to run, London's calling, cheers!

Tapping the brakes for flashing taillights---> one of the best defensive strategies I still use repeatedly. General defensive driving has always been needed and continues to be the way to stay accident free. I still think the technology to disable cell phones while in motion should be applied to help stop distracted driving. Put the damn phone down and drive!

I agree about the phones to an extent but of course people are going to say what about emergency calls? I also want my Google maps to work on my Android auto. I think voice to text or voice control should be it enabled while driving forcing you to be hands-free.

Distracted driving is the problem. Texting and speaking hands free is still being distracted from the job of piloting a vehicle . Would you want to fly on a plane where the pilot is distracted by other conversations and distractions other than flying the plane? That is my observation of drivers wanting to do too many things at once . Multi tasking to me means doing 2 things half-assed .

Thought… could it be us? I mean, a lot of us drive these trucks slowly and gently as watching the mpgs is a sport of its own. So maybe we’re dawdling a bit more than average traffic and getting tagged by the faster flowing drivers?

This might help: I put a 3 flash LED to replace the brake light located on the cab. I know some drivers might find this annoying, but that's sort of the point . . . attention. In case you're one who may think more is better, it is against the law to do this to your main brake lights. Something about impersonating an emergency vehicle.
In most states you can add a pulsing feature but not a flashing feature. Look online, they are availble & fairly inexpensive. Some manufacturers put them on from the factory.

"Pulse" might be a better term than "flash". The law allows for no more than 3 pulses which is what I installed. It's an easy swap out for the OEM bulb. I know Subaru installs them on some models.

It’s just bias. Everyone gets rear ended, but this is a Maverick forum, so people are going to post only mavericks.

I got rear ended in my Lexus last week, but I didn’t post it here lol

So no Google maps? We should probably remove all the radios as well.

I'm sorry you missed my point--using a cell phone while driving for talking and texting requires too much distraction .

Who missed your point? I largely agree but voice to text is LESS distracting but not zero. Lighting a cigarette is distracting, changing radio stations, talking to the person next to you ( remember your point that the conversation itself is the distraction?) so a bubble of silence?

got my bulb(s) and installed one in our new mav. thanx a meg for the suggestion.

asked 'round about it and immediately got a response from a friend who warned that "flashing red lights attract drunk drivers . . . " sheesh

did a search and sho nuff drunks do seem attracted to flashing lights--but the stats point more to continuously flashing lights--like from emergency vehicles--than to the brief flashes from a 3-pulse bulb

what's y'all's hit?

have heard that distracted drivers now outnumber drunk drivers for the most dangerous thing on the road
