Likely state to state variations too.
Oh yes each state has their own rules. I bought my truck in NY but live in NJ.

Related Question: My 22 Lariat has Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) which allows the vehicle to follow at given distance. Among other things it automatically slows as traffic ahead slows down. My question is "do the brake lights come on as the ACC system uses the brakes to remain at the correct distance from the vehicle in front?"
Yes if the brakes are automatically applied. But it'll maintain some very low speeds by just using gearing/throttle, but nothing sudden.

The speed of light (in kilometres (km) - it's easier) is 299,793 km/s. Electricity travels at approximately 70% of the seed of light. If the Mav is 3 m long, total time for the signal to reach the light bulbs is 0.000000007 sec.

Of course, if the wiring in the Mav is in fact 299,793 km long, then you are correct.
All true, but how long does it take for a tungsten filament to reach full brightness?

I was just having a little fun. Hard for me to fathom why Ford would deliberately programme a delay in when the brake lights come on. Even harder to fathom why regulators would allow this.

Even harder to fathom why this would cause a car to rear end you.

There are alternative theories.

Yeah, that was my point as well, that the delay that I see is likely due to the speed of the filament. Replacing with an LED would likely cure the delay.

Either way, it's usually more about attention not being paid than any sort of delay, and reducing delay won't fix stupid.

I kind of figured it was due to the regen braking that can substantially slow the vehicle without using the brakes

Nothing to worry about around here. I live in a lawless hellscape. I routinely see people with red headlights, missing license plates, smashed windshields, kids in truck beds, etc. Small town USA with a useless sheriff's office where, since every deputy knows every criminal, nothing gets done.

Either way, this would only be used for a few seconds per day as I slow down to enter my driveway and I'd gladly explain this to a cop, should there be one. Thanks for the concern.
Sounds similar to Southern California. LOL

So all, I was messing around in the garage and upon driving out noticed something.
When I hit the brake pedal the brake lights come on but after a bit of a delay. Also when letting off the pedal the lights stay on for a bit as well. Saw this in the mirror and reflections in the garage.
My theory is that when you step on the brake the signal has to be sent to the bcm, processed as pedal stepped on then sends signal to lights to turn them on.
It might be happening fast but maybe not fast enough to keep us from being tagged from the back.
Just my assessment and theory. Anyone have any thoughts on this. Check for yourselves, see what you think. I’m an old school driver and used to just hitting the pedal, closing the circuit and boom lights come on. Too much tech sometimes is too much.
Or not enough tech. I don't know a Maverick yet but I'm assuming that it has incandescent bulbs for the brake lights? LEDs react a lot quicker. I know the Maverick isn't on the higher end of vehicles cost-wise but Christ my 2005 Infiniti G35 coupe had LED tail lights.
I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but with the hybrid when you're using the regenerative braking and not the friction breaks to the brake lights come on? Or how quickly do they come on? I have been behind a few Teslas in the past that were noticeably, visibly slowing down and the brake lights didn't come on.

Wouldn't it be more likely that you would get rear-ended because you hit the brakes longer before the brake lights came on? If you're going 80 on the highway that little bit of time is a good distance.

I am disputing that there is a (sizable) delay in pressing the brake peddle and the brake lights coming on. Easy to test methinks.
