As long as you're carrying uninsured/under insured coverage
I carry very high uninsured/under insured coverage for that reason. Also if I was in an accident that had huge medical bills someone's insurance will only cover 50k if the minimum.
Wow, $5,000 is nothing nowadays.
I have $300,000 bodily injury and $100,000 property damage coverage and under/uninsured of $100,000 per person / $300,000 per accident.

I'm just glad he HAD insurance at all at this point. $5,000 might cover knocking over a mailbox, it's wild that it's that low in PA.

Progressive called to tell me that it's my problem now because their client has only state minimum liability of $5,000 for property damage.
Welp, Progressive just called again at 2:30PM and said that I need to return the rental by 5pm today (I work 12hr day shifts Fri-Sat-Sun and they won't cover the weekend). They say they will no longer be covering the rental due to the claim being moved to my insurance. So getting to work is going to get very interesting.

Really not liking Progressive.

It's worse if you are their customer!
Trying to get this sorted now. I contacted my insurance and they told me that Progressive should be covering the rental until my car is out of the shop due to their client being the cause of the loss of use of my vehicle. My insurance is now calling Progressive and will call me back.

Insurance companies prefer to try and bully the consumer. That's why they didn't call your insurance company first.
Please keep us updated.

State Farm called me and said that Progressive has met their liability of $5,000 and is not required to cover the rental for me, despite their client being the cause of the loss of use of my own vehicle. I don't have rental coverage through State Farm but they offered me a discounted rate. I declined and am borrowing a family members vehicle for the interim.

Prior to this I asked the Progressive Insurance rep if they would cover Fri-Sat-Sun at least so I could get to my shifts and return it on Monday and they refused that pretty reasonable request and told me it was due back by 5PM today (essentially 2 hours notice to get it back to Enterprise).

Does Enterprise have YOUR credit card information? If no, just turn it in Monday.

Maybe I was the exception. When FORD gave me a rental because they had no loaners (Avis or Enterprise or Hertz I don't remember) I did not need to submit ANY payment information. They handled it all. And I returned the car EMPTY. 😱😈

Actually I'm not that mean. They called an said "come get your truck" with like 30 minutes notice before closing. I was like "I'm at work too, I won't have time to fill it up if I run over" and they were like we don't care.

Yes, part of the paperwork was agreeing to a hold on my CC and waiving their rental insurance. No hold, no rental. I am a bit annoyed because I had just filled it up last night expecting to have it for several weeks. The rental guy said returning it around half full was fine as that's how they gave it to me.

I'd keep it. 99% chance Progressive will let it slide. It's close to end of business day. Whoops. Too much traffic to get there before closing.

It's been returned and I'm happy to no longer have to deal with Progressive Auto Insurance Company. It's just wild that the insurance requirements are so lousy here. I've done nothing wrong and will not be made whole because I'm using my own resources while my vehicle is out of service. My deductible now needs paid until subrogation is final and either renting on my own or borrowing a vehicle until mine is returned.

I love it, when a cop can determine that a driver was traveling well over the speed limit without ever being there.
determining speed without skid marks seems improbable.

However, the fact that someone pulled into the road and got hit by a vehicle already in traffic is enough to assess liability upon the entrant.

"The other guy was speeding" gets trumped by Failure to Yield, while "the other guy sped up after I was in traffic does not."

have all been hit by people with no insurance. The drivers are fined but that doesn't pay the bill.
My proposal is mandatory impound at the scene of uninsured vehicles. Then sell them to partially cover damages. Also, this should trump the loan on the car; the banks can require and force place liability insurance as well as just comp & collision.

They say they will no longer be covering the rental due to the claim being moved to my insurance.
it's generally better, at least in these parts, to deal with your own insurance on the property damage, and let them deal with the other company. (OK, at least if you have a real company, rather than one of the flakes)

Well that blew my estimate out of the ballpark.
"Waterrick" got a hell of a lot closer.

Although I don't like the fact that they aren't going to replace that driver side panel. I didn't see a price for a replacement panel.
So is it going to be pulled out and massaged back to shape?
It's a new truck I think I would want a new panel on there.
Actually Glen, don't feel too out of it. After my military time, I did do a stint as an auto damage appraisor, not for insurance companies, but for auto leasing companies, and some major auto manufacturers. At one time I thought about going into the insurance end of things and even got my South Carolina auto insurance appraisors license. Many, many moons ago (25+ years). But, I have to admit I only made a guess based on how expensive things have gotten today.

The longer this goes on the more the estimate increases. I think in the end it's going to be closer to my $10,000.

It's past $5,000 but it seems like they've found all the damage there is to find, but the initial estimate was definitely optimistic.

New estimate from my insurance... just under $5k. The repair date was pushed back to July 3rd as well (I was struck on May 21st). If accurate, it will be in the shop for an equal amount of time as I've had to drive it. 😒
