In retrospect, I should have hidden the keys and made him drive the minivan.

Both cars had one in this instance. Upon reviewing the footage, there was no question about who was at fault...DASHCAM may be the single most important INEXPENSIVE addition to ANY vehicle
I always gravitate towards a good road trip opportunity, being stuck on a island and all. But yeah not as good as the last deal so it depends how bad your local dealers are if it's worth it or not. Mine are 5k over minimum island tax.I did granger for my first EB. Without hesitation, would certainly do it again!
However the cost of shipping offsets the savings, so something to think about.
Why was he even driving it?My brother-in-law was house-sitting for me while I'm on vacation and this happened to my 4 month old XLT hybrid.
See:Why was he even driving it?
Does your brother-in-law not have his own vehicle.
Did you give permission for him to drive it?
If you did I have to ask why?
I for one in the same situation would not allow for my Maverick to be driven.
His F150 didn't fit in the plane.
Alaska Airlines is VERY strict on stuff like that...

So he DID NOT have permission to drive it but decided to drive it anyway and did not even ask you if he could. In retrospect, I should have hidden the keys and made him drive the minivan.
Cash value should be higher since resale values are higher than original cost And replacement cost should be higher since a replacement comes with ADM markup. Good luck to OP.Very sorry for you. Correct me if i'm wrong but your insurance company should replace the vehicle regardless of who is at fault. Usually in CA, insurance is for Actual Cash Value or Replacement Cost. Your Mav is essentially new. I would try to locate a similar vehicle or one that is acceptable to you in inventory somewhere, negotiate the price as best you can and purchase it, then have your insurance company pay that amount. That way you don't need to go through the miserable order process. As of this moment, my local Ford dealer, Encinitas Ford in 92024 has 8 Mav's for sale marked up $6k for EB and not sure about markup on hybrids. But they do negotiate. Be open to travelling to get it. Also contact the DMV and get the balance of your registration refunded. Good luck!
Is this now a former brother in law??I have been telling myself that if my Mav ever gets totalled, I'd buy it as a salvage and fix it up.
My brother-in-law was house-sitting for me while I'm on vacation and this happened to my 4 month old XLT hybrid.
I don't think there's any fixing that up.

Damn that has to be a very sad movie to watch - so sorry about your Mav.Both cars involved had dash cams.
I installed the one I got for Father's Day last week.
***My local dealer has a 2023 SILVER XLT HYBRID*** Pierson Ford Aberdeen, South Dakota 57401 Super Sharp!I would be interested to know what insurance offers too. The 2024 went up a lot in price,. . Plus no vehicle for a LONG time .
