I'm a car guy. Level 99.

A lifetime friend of mine was looking at my Maverick today. He's a car guy too, level 99.

He said the Mavericks look like like an Aussie Ute ordered from Wish.

I ain't even mad. I laughed so damned hard then called him names and we laughed together.

My Maverick cried a little. It's okay, it knows I still love it.

Um technically would be classified as a UTE. Unibody design, like the Ranchero, El Camino, Chevy Avalanche, Subaru Baja, Subaru Brat, Hyundai Santa Cruse, also the Honda Ridgeline. While a few of those were or are body on frame I wouldn’t classify any of them a truck. I ordered the Maverick because I wanted a all wheel drive Car with a small truck bed, if I wanted a 4x4 small truck I would have ordered a ranger, or Tacoma or Colorado.
Just another car guy’s two cents.

I think an Ute is a great description. I've been calling it that for a while. Some character, and less polarizing than baby truck, trucklett, etc.

What might be interesting to note is while watching a YouTube video more recently from a person in Australia, they referred to their full on truck as a UTE, so not sure if it’s just that one person referring to all trucks and unibody pickups as UTE’s or if Australians have just started using the word UTE to describe anything that has a bed regardless if it’s unibody or shell on frame

Doesn't sound like an insult. I'm kind of a Ute myself

Understand the pain you felt, my Truck was misidentified as a car under poor lighting. I so wanted to protect it from the shame.
Last summer we went to Knobles amusement park and the parking attendant didn't know it was a truck until he stepped to the side and could see the bed. I cried a tear for Mini.

My Maverick chopped and stretched Escape CUV with an undersized bed is happily parked outside as I type this. It's secure enough that it doesn't need to be called a truck. It's fully aware that it's smaller than average, but it's still confident that it can get the assigned job done well enough.

As an old girlfriend told me, it's not the size that matters, it's how you use it!

When anyone says ute, I immediately think of Australian Holden Commodore or Ford Falcon utes. I never got used to anyone calling their Hi-Lux a ute.

I fail to understand why anyone would consider it derogatory to call a Maverick a Ute. My impression of the term has been mostly positive. As I get it, Ute is is simply Australian for utility vehicle. The Maverick is definitely just that. Now that I think of it, my truck has just found its name. Ute it is!
