The little arrow beside the fuel gauge on the display that tells you which side of the vehicle the gas cap is on. It's blinking.

In Ford vehicles, including the Maverick, the system runs a self-test to ensure no fuel vapors are escaping. If the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects a drop in pressure or an open seal, it triggers a warning.

Insert the plastic fuel filler funnel (located under the rear seat or with your spare tire tools) or a clean nozzle a few times to ensure the spring mechanism snaps back tightly.

There is nothing in the manual that suggests that the gas cap side indicator arrow should blink. There would be a CEL if what you indicated was true. I'm talking about the little arrow that tells you what side cas cap is on for when you pull into a gas station

🤷‍♂️ I have no idea, but according to a google AI search:

AI Overview

A blinking gas cap arrow (or "Check Fuel Fill Inlet" indicator) on a 2022 Ford Maverick typically signals a problem with the fuel system's pressure seal, often caused by a loose, dirty, or damaged fuel inlet.
Because the Maverick uses a capless "Easy Fuel" system, there is no physical cap to tighten; however, a small internal spring-loaded door must seal perfectly to prevent fuel vapors from escaping.

Common Causes & Fixes
  • Dirty Seal: Dirt or debris can prevent the capless door from closing completely, triggering the sensor. Use the plastic funnel provided with your vehicle (usually stored under the rear seat or in the trunk) to open and close the inlet several times to clear debris.
  • System Pressure Issues: Topping off the gas tank after the pump automatically stops can force liquid fuel into the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system, damaging the charcoal canister or purge valve.
  • Damaged Inlet: If the spring mechanism or rubber seal on the internal flapper is worn or broken, the entire fuel filler neck assembly may need replacement.
How to Reset the Indicator
  1. Clean the Inlet: Lubricate the seal with silicone spray or WD-40 and cycle the flapper door 10–15 times using the emergency funnel.
  2. Drive for a Few Days: The light often requires several "driving cycles" (typically 20–30 miles of normal driving) for the onboard computer to re-verify the seal and turn off the indicator.
  3. Manual Reset: If the light persists, a technician may need to clear the diagnostic code using an OBD-II scanner.
Critical Warning
If the Check Engine Light is also flashing, this indicates a severe engine misfire that could cause immediate damage to the catalytic converter. In this case, you should stop driving and seek immediate service.

^^^^^This is what happens when you rely on AI with ZERO follow up and ZERO human intelligence input.

That little arrow next to the gas pump icon is not a warning light at all.
It simply tells you which side of the vehicle the fuel door is on
  • Arrow pointing left → fuel door is on the left side
  • Arrow pointing right → fuel door is on the right side
It never blinks, doesn’t indicate a fault, and has nothing to do with pressure, vapors, or the fuel system condition.

I can try but it’s not consistent blinks like a turn signal. It’s random. And, while I’m driving.

Silicone good, WD-40 bad as it decays some seals.

Again. AI’s info is totally irrelevant.

the arrow is not an indicator of anything except which side your fuel tank is on, which if helpful if you drive many vehicle's and or use rentals

Is it possible the appearance of it blinking is just glare from sunlight coming in at the right angle?

yes. At first, I thought it was a light reflection, but it happens occasionally in low light as well. And it's more of a steady blink while it lasts and not random flickering. Weird.

Maybe it blinks if you pull in with the pump next to the passenger side

Just the arrow blinks?
That shouldn't be what his fuel gauge looks like with a Lariat Ecoboost.

All of the "white" text and symbols outside of the LCD display are illuminated from behind when the truck is on, regardless of headlight status. Sounds like you have a failing LED or a short in the instrument cluster circuit board.
