I hit a 1000 miles so I wanted to try a couple of 0-60 runs. On my first pass I measured a 6.11 but I think I stopped the clock a hair early. The 2nd pass was 6.62 which is probably more realistic. I braked torqued on both runs and the first time it chirped the tires and it seemed to launch harder. I have AWD but no 4k package and I’m running 87 octane. I wonder how many 10ths premium would shave off? I don’t plan on doing this often but I had to try it.

I ran a 6.5 on 87 and a 6.3 on 93 a few days apart on a dragy. Best 0-60 so far using 93 is a 6.11. FX4 with the 4k tow gears. 1/4 mile on that run was 14.35.

Don't fall for the "premium'" ploy. Use what Ford recommends because their engines are designed to get max milage and performance on 87 octane.

I believe Ford recommends premium for best performance on the ecoboost. I would not use it though. Gas is expensive as it is. When gas was cheap during covid I ran a tank of premium on my 2011 ecoboost. While it was noticeable not worth the extra cash.

I just filled it with premium as an experiment. I haven’t noticed a difference yet but maybe the computer hasn’t registered it yet.

Engine Masters did a good fuel test episode the other day. Results werent what you would expect.

It was complicated and I know I would misquote them, but it was Frieberger and Dulcich in the dyno room, so its worth a watch on the youtubes.

Just watched it. Unless you get knock there is no significant difference in power. Turbos will respond better to high octane since the boost will tend to increase heat and therefore knock, but personally I'd be surprised if you could really tell the difference.

So I ran through my first tank of premium and I really didn’t notice a big difference in power. Mileage wise I just got 34.8 going from Hamden CT to Rochester NH. I filled up with 87 on my way back and I got over 36 MPG. I was cautious with the throttle but still averaged around 70 mph. Premium is definitely not worth the extra money and I came away very impressed with the highway fuel economy of this little truck.

High octane will allow more ignition timing advance which will lower exhaust temps going into the turbo.
Compressor out or boost temps can be higher depending what the ECU will allow. This is why an upgraded intercooler is needed if you start increasing boost pressures.
