For those who went to 245/65-17, (all terrain type) any significant MPG change?

Just switched from the stock tires to Nokian Outpost APT in 245/65R17. So far I've seen my average for highway and city drop about 1.5 mpg. The APT isn't an aggressive off-road tire so your results may vary depending what tire you go with.

I went to 235/70, so similar size, on Firestone Destination AT2s. Noticed a drop of about 10% in MPG. Always keep them at 35 PSI cold, summer and winter.

Went to 235 Falken Wildpeak AT Trails and have had tanks of only 21.5mpg but it was sub freezing temps.

Id estimate a 10-15% overall hit.

Switched to Michelin CrossClimate 2's, stock size (same as Conti OEM) on '23 Hybrid. Seems to have improved mileage by 2-3%, statistically insignificant, but in the couple snows we had, did surprisingly well!

Running 245/65r17 Nokian Rotiiva, similar to Outpost APT, supposed to be low rolling resistance. I think I lost about 1.5 mpg, mostly affects street. Still gets 31 to 33 on all freeway driving.

Installed 245/65R17 Aplus Shredder All Terrain tires on OEM steel wheels on 2-16-26, inflated to 40psi cold. As compared to the OEM Wrangler 225/55R19 at 42psi. They are a more aggressive tread for my lot under construction and winter driving.

The OEM tires could get to 40 mpg city and the AT tires are so far 36 mpg city in ECO mode. The outside temperature seems to affect mpg more than anything. I'm evaluating highway, but it looks like 29 mpg. As I recall the OEM could get 32 mpg highway. I drive the same 54 mile trip and back several days per week.

There's a slight vibration from the aggressive AT tread. Better mpg than my 255/50R20 Summit Trail Climber SUV² on Mach E wheels.

The factory tire pressure was 35psi, not 42. The vehicle was shipped at 45psi to prevent flatspotting on the train, and maybe your dealer didn't do their pl/pd job and drop the pressures to streetable value. At 42psi it will drive all wrong, wear the tread really early and have a lot less tread contact, causing safety issues. What else did they miss before releasing the truck to you?

Probably the easiest way to evaluate alternate tire fuel mileage costs is to look at their temperature rating on the tire sticker when you buy them. AT tires tend to have beefier sidewalls and blocky treads, both of which contribute to a poor temperature rating. It would be very unusual to find an AT tire with an A or AA temperature rating, as most of the are only graded B or C. For offroad use that may be fine, as gas mileage is not a consideration in those situations. For highway or city use it matters a lot. Tire temperature is lost energy, or lost fuel mileage and lost tire life with internal tire friction effects. It also indirectly causes more transmission wear, since it has to be pushed harder to go down the same road.

I have lost one mpg with new Costco aluminum rims and tires, Bridgestone ALENZA AS ULTRA 225/65R17
but the trade off in the softer feel yet a heavier ride over lightweight stock XL tires is more than well worth it, because the difference reminds me that it’s a small pickup truck, not an economical suv with thin hard tires.

Hard for most to say as they don't adjust their mpg calc's for the difference in number of revolutions per mile for 225's & 245''s.
