I really cannot understand why pretty all auto manufacturers are so slow to provide wireless Carplay and Android Auto. I know it sounds like a first world problem but it's really annoying to have to plug my phone in every time I get in the car just use Android Auto. Plus I can't always mount the phone in the most convenient place because the USB cord might be in the way.
Yeah I agree, and to have a wireless charger pad. You’d think it would have wireless car play..

resident pontiff here: Over the last 2 years Ford has been very public about their plans for the future, and 1 point was the decision to stop selling sedans and all cars (except Mustang) in the US by this year. They realized that would leave a gap in the entry level portfolio for people wanting a new car for under $20k- unless you consider EcoSport a "car". Another point was to fill the "white space" of a compact truck since all the other offerings have swollen in size and price to become "mid-size". Another point was to attract a younger demographic of buyers to pull into the Ford brand. You've probably noticed they've been selling hybrids for a few years and now going full electric as well with 1st offerings of Mach-E and Lightning F-150.

So yes, Ford has planned the Maverick as an entry level vehicle all along, but also appeals to other types of owners and drivers based on trim levels and options. Casting a wider net here. IMO it certainly isn't made to appeal directly to more affluent luxury brand owners who regularly buy Lexus, Jaguar, etc. and would find this vehicle lacking :devilish:
We couldn’t agree more on your assessment with Fords Maverick product. Glad to see the domestic automakers leading the way to products that consumers really desire. The Maverick checked all of the boxes for us being current needs and a affordable price to boot.

I don't know that Ford is trying to keep the price down on any trim level other than the base XL. What information is out there that suggests otherwise? It's certainly not the destination fee. And if I want to spend more money on options, how does that affect somebody else that wants a rock bottom price with no options?
I agree that Ford should have offered more stand alone options especially where there's not a difference between the models. Something like the wireless charging for the phone, since I'm betting all the wiring for most of the various electrical options are going to be in the installed with the truck wiring why not offer some of those items as separate options. I still don't understand why they didn't offer cruise control as an option on the XL model! Having that as a separate addable option would still keep the base model "under" 20k pricing. Oh and the destination charge is certainly not propositional to the delivery location. It doesn't seem right that I have pay the same fee as someone who lives in Maine? Tucson is just 200 miles from the Maverick factory, shouldn't my delivery fee about a tenth of what someone who lives nearly 2k miles away?? Just saying!

Ha! I've thought the same thing! Hermosillo is only 200 mi away! At some point we could stand by the track and watch our Mavericks go on by in a train car hauler to where-ever knowing it will then be trucked back to Tucson. Although my desire to go into Mexico is limited of late, it would be cool to make the trek down to Hermosillo and watch our respective Mavericks being made. Since the destination charge is non-negotiable Ford is actually full of BS saying that the base XL
is at $19,995.

I was thinking along the same line!! It would be cool to visit the factory and see our trucks being built, but alas Mexico has lost some of it charm, especially in the area of one's personal safety! You're right about the train though, we could probably spot our trucks as they come by on the rail. Which has me thinking, were will the AZ Mavs be delivered to for distribution, Phoenix or Tucson or is there some "Area 51" place where vehicles land before being sent out? You know Ford saying the base is under $20k is actually mis-leading in my opinion because that implies you can buy a Mav at that price when in reality you can't because of the delivery charge!

Agree about the cost.
Do they allow you to watch production? That would be cool.

They probably don't allow build watching, especially in light of virus still running around! It would be cool if they had a program like BMW has (had?) where you could pick up your car at the factory, drive it around Europe for a while and then have it shipped to the States. I was going to do this when I was stationed in Germany waaaay back in 2001, but things changed and it couldn't happen.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I spent 7 years (2 tours back to back in Frankfurt). I went to the BMW plant down in Munich. Sweeeet

I did one tour at Spangdahlem AB and learned about the BMW program when friends bought their 3-series there and picked it up at the factory. Very nice car and factory. Overall, Germany was a great assignment!

While true, I also suspect Ford's strategy here is to encouge those who want extra features to not just jump trim levels, but jump to Ranger or F150. They do not want to cannibalize sales. Especially in the most profitable segment(s) (trucks/, suv's). Just my thinking...
They need Maverick sales to meet CAFE standards. For me Maverick fits, I have no interest in either Ranger or F-150.

All the manufacturers play the same game on destination.

They did at one point. Many years ago now when I was a young boy my father and I went (maybe to Detroit?) to watch the F-250 he special ordered get built He shortly after drove it up to Alaska to work on the pipeline. I still have that truck.

While not an interior feature, I wish puddle lamps were available.
