Yes, it is "gas" mileage; gasoline provides the energy to make the electricity in the hybrid. Some of that electricity is recovered, but it all comes from the engine converting gasoline to "power" .

Nope a big part is regenerated from braking and coasting.

Where do you think the electricity that’s recaptured through braking came from in the first place?

I suppose if you started at the top of pikes Peak within empty battery and an empty gas tank and let the Maverick coast down the mountain you would have a partially charged traction battery at the bottom. But you could only go so far on that charge and then you would have no electricity and no potential to move the vehicle without putting in some gasoline and starting the IC engine.

My motorcycle is built for milage so I get aggressive with abandon but every time I clamp on the brakes I lament the waste and wonder how good it would do if it was a hybrid. My NC750X gets 75mpg if I drive it "normal" but it's keeping me relatively sane during the divorce.
Like you I'm thrilled at the milage of the hybrid.

The real mpg is at the pump. After 2 or 3 fill-ups, then you’ll know what you are really getting. After some 56k, I am averaging 38 mpg with 80+% on the highway. You’re going to like your overall mileage.
