About 7 other vehicles I've had the factory "jack" points have bent on between the 1st and 3rd use, so I am super shy about using them unless it's an emergency with the tire change jack. Hence my own reluctance to use pinch welds.

The chunk of 2x4 cut to snug in behind them worked okay this morning. Got some slight abrasion paint transfer on it. So might have to gloop those areas with some rust preventer.
They make pinch weld pucks that you can put around it for protection.

Do you cut out the slit for the pinch weld?
Nope. I just let it deform around it (not that it does much). It grips the pinch weld really well and doesn't damage any finish.

I have one like in the second link, but I never use it. In theory it offers better stability but ive never had a problem with any of my cars and my method
I don't use the magnetic ones much. They were a gift and while neat - the hard rubber pucks are my go to.

I dont think most A/T tread patterns will be great in snow, but i think the wildpeaks in particular are very sensitive to inflation level in this particular instance
Many all-terrain tires are now available as "Severe Snow Service" rated tires and carry the 3 peak mountain snowflake symbol. It makes them perform slightly worse in mud but multiple times better in snow. Nokian (famous for their snow tires and tires designed for EVs) is now selling an all terrain severe snow service tire designed for Hybrid and Electric trucks.

Now if you live in an area where the snow and ice come and stay for weeks upon weeks, freeze, thaw, refreeze, get snowed on again... you probably still need snow tires. But for the rest of us who get snow and freezing conditions but it comes and goes, melts away after a few days, comes back a few weeks later, or someone who just wants to be ready for anything. All WEATHER tires are probably the best bet.

There's a thought. Thinking of moving a few hundred miles south to Missouri. Right now it's comes and stays for months.

I'm on the Colorado Plateau in NM, some winters no snow or a few snowfalls of a couple of inches, other winters you might get a single storm that dumps 14 inches. Either way its gone in a few days and you might not see any more for a few weeks. (It's not Minneapolis where it freezes over for months.)

I've had General Altimax 365 AW, great tire and would be great for Maverick owners who see occasional snow and have no intention of leaving the pavement. I've had some Hercules all-terrains with severe snow service rating and they were FREAKING AWESOME in the snow and light off roading. (Hercules is made by Cooper etc and a great discount brand.)

I live in North Dakota and we get a combination of deep snow, drifts and ice, lots of ice. I got my Tremor last year @ the tail end of winter and I am pretty happy with the factory tires that come on the Tremor.

Real "box of chocolates" winters here, never know what you're gonna get. Being in the middle of the great lakes. Sometimes it's just hard frost and light dustings, sometimes it's 4" a week that hangs around and builds up, sometimes it's 40" dumps, sometimes it's messy wet stuff and ice storms, sometimes it's a month of each of those.

similar experience last week, blizzard laying down 7" of snow. But it was the last day of hunting season and I hadn't filled my tag..
went out, even with 2wd and factory tires, the Mav climbed up nasty roads that would have needed chains on the RWD SportTrac that I used to hunt out of..
the traction control seems to be very smart, never spun a wheel, the Mav just thought about it and then drove me out of trouble. Very happy owner here..

out on the lone prairie day before the snows,

Ford Maverick Mave's first snow. Very happy with Maverick Tremor! lone prairie maverick

factory tires after driving down that road,

Ford Maverick Mave's first snow. Very happy with Maverick Tremor! maverick factory tir

my frugal scottish soul won't let me buy new tires until these are worn out, it's going to be a long couple of years ;-)
