They rode along and heard it. Not sure why after a week they're saying it's not persistent" enoughIt sounds like an old ship groaning. I would definitely show the dealer the video. You can request to have the service manager ride along with you. Mention it when you schedule your service visit.
Tried that with hood open. It's in the mid to lower steering area. I can't see in or under to see where. The fact that leaving it parked overnight sometimes eliminates the issue entirely, I'm thinking the electric based steering system or something may be over-tightening in the power steering or steering joint area. A software issue like with my 2022 bronco Software nightmares. To be clear, this car's electric transmission has already had a transmission recall for not staying in park of all things. Park! Are you sure its in the column? You say you heard it while parked as well.... did you try to have someone else turn the wheel (when making noise) while parked with the hood open too and listen for the noise under the hood to ensure its really in the column? Would give it a try as well. Might help you isolate the issue when explaining to the service dept.
It could also be the lane assist that steer-corrects the wheel malfunctioning and causing it. IDK. I've turned that off and it persists. When the car sits at full shut off for more than an hour, perhaps the entire system resets and eliminates the issue? However, sometimes it remains even overnight and is there at startup in the morning though. The occasionality of it not being readily persistent makes me think electrical as it wouldn't require the drive time for it to occur. I'm no mechanic so what so I heck do I know.
