Hello all, I have a 26 Lariat with the B&o and have been contemplating changing out the rear speakers, I've read about people changing them for 4x6 but I don't see the point. I was thinking of making speaker boxes for under the seats for a 6.5 component set with the woofer under the seat obviously and the tweeter ran up the beside the 4" factory and the glass in a pod. I was curious from what I found it's estimated around 20-35 RMS (could be wrong). Could I just use the factory wires and the component crossover the run it or will I have issues? I would be just eliminating the rear speakers. From what I know the rear speakers are from the factory head unit not the actual b&o system so should be fine right? I think it would bring more mids and clearer highs to the rear and maybe help with the front soundstage. And also I'm waiting for a t harness to come out for the newer b&o amps for adding a sub later on.

Hey there. I am not 100% familiar with the B&O, but I believe you are correct that the rears are powered form the head unit itself. I'd be very surprised if they were anywhere near 35W per channel, though. A search on the forum may turn up some more reliable info on how the B&O is wired up.

I am not sure how much oomph you will get putting the 6.5s under the seat, but I guess it would be more than you have now from the lame 4" OEM speakers.

One thing on the non-B&O system, which I assume is the same on yours, is that the OEM EQ is set to limit bass to the little 4" speakers. This can be changed in Forscan so that they receive more of the frequency range - and you would want to do this, if you are putting in components with a crossover.

I can't find it definitively but Ive read people say that the radio sends a full signal and there is a high pass on the 4" speaker itself instead of the software but I hate the lack of info about the setup from Ford. I know it wouldn't be louder but at least can play full range clearer in theory if the signal is actually full range. I don't want to go a2b/amp adapter yet cuz of warranty.

I've been in the software and changed it before running my amp's DSP setup. It's both, at least on the non-B&O. Ironically, I went back and put bass blockers on my replacement 4" speakers - partly because I'm feeding them 50W each now. :D

Yeah I'm not sure the difference between the non and with b&o. I don't wanna mess around two much with software yet.

The B&O is much more than just adequate. It rivals the similar high-end Bose audio system we had in a previous Cadillac DTS we owned. Both are excellently implemented audio systems.

I will disagree wit that, I think it is a good audio system but I don't think it is as good as people think. having audio ran from two different amps is just dumb. the soundstage is so frontal its like listening to a portable speaker glued to the dash. the highs are harsh and shrill most of the time, mids are meh and the lows are muddddyy. Honestly my 2011 golf with base speakers but with an aftermarket radio sounds 2x better. plus have to take the interior apart and sound mat if you want any decent sound reproduction.

Also thank you for mentioning forscan, I didn't know that even existed and was free. I already ordered the obd2 plug and will change the settings before changing to components. but now that i know i can get full range at 20-30 rms that would wake up the rear quite a lot depending on the box for the 6.5.

You will lose staging by putting the 6.5 under the rear seat. I would say just change the factory to a good set of 4 inch in the factory locations

Here are the factory speakers next to what I replaced them with. And forscan controls the crossover for the rear

I'm not the OP and am not putting speakers under the seat, but he is proposing doing that AND having pods up near the existing 4" locations, so his staging should be fine.

Personally I DID replace the factory rear speakers, but it was a pain. Given the rest of my setup (dash/door speakers, DSP amp, sub) I am not sure I would go to the trouble of doing the rear speakers if I did it over again.

I'm not an expert in audio but I'm assuming by losing staging you mean the ability to fade to rear? or that id loose that sound from the rear, cuz I don't hear any audio from the rear stock. so if anything by having the new tweeter beside the stock 4" it wouldn't change a thing since both only play highs. id just have mids and more lows coming from my butt and or i could put the 6.5 in the under seat storage that i don't use but was saving that for a 10" sub eventually. I get your point by just replacing the speakers but they still wont produce good mids at all which i want from the rear in my preference.

if I didn't have the B&O setup I would do the same but the two amps complicates things just a little more. so I'm waiting for a good A2B/DSP adapter that removes the amp and il just run everything from that.
