As observed above, only the wholesale value added is subject to tariff. It's not the end of the world, and it's not $10,000 in tariff. And since Ford is already doing $750 or more in incentives, I bet they'll eat half the tariff for a period. Not all. We'll surely find out soon. Gonna be a popcorn munching week!

I wonder if we could rename Mexico to United States of America, and then there would be no tariff? I mean, we do have a newly set precedent for renaming things...

I really think that we are not even close to considering the impact this will have on all of us. It is not just the Ford Maverick unfortunately.

Why would Ford be offering incentives on the Maverick that is supposed to be one of their hotest selling vehicles. Something doesn't add up. I wonder if they are seeing a major downtick in the orders that have been coming in. Car manufacturers don't give incentives on the vehicles that are having high sale volumes, only on the ones they have trouble selling. The steady increase of the pricing for the Maverick since it was first released definitely doesn't make it a great buy for the upper models considering the quality and options compared to some mid size SUV. I'm surprized some of the foreign manufacturers haven't taken some of their mid size SUVs and cut the back down to make it into a truck. With a little suspension work they could push their 3500 towing higher and most have the options available for the HP needed. Most Maverick owners don't take their trucks off road so the SUV ride height and clearance would not be an issue for many owners....at least not for me. In NY there are not many places you can even go off road without getting a ticket for trespassing.

Engine and transmission made in non-tariff countries. Many other parts too. Tariffs added to the COST of goods from Mexico and Canada and China, plus the value of assembly. A $40,000 Maverick might have $4,000 in tariff added, not $10,000. How much of that Ford decides to pass through is anyone's guess.

According to mama google search, the Maverick earns the distinction of being the least American made pickup sold in America. And the exact quote is that only 26% of the parts for the Maverick are made in the USA and CANADA. They count Canadian made parts in that 26%. The Hybrid's engine is made in Mexico BTW.

The Maverick is gonna get the full brunt of tariffs. And the Maverick is Ford's LEAST EXPENSIVE new vehicle sold in America. It's wishful thinking to believe Ford takes a haircut - of any amount - on it's least expensive product. Maybe they take a hit on the $50,000+ trucks, but not on the ones 1/2 that price.

Additionally - there isn't really any competition to consider with the Maverick. What else are you going to buy if looking for a small pick up truck? The odd looking Santa Fe is the only real alternative - and it's already thousands more and cannot be had in hybrid. MOST of the time when people on this forum decide to buy something different - it's the Ford Ranger (which will also go up in price, Half the parts come from somewhere else). That's fine with Ford.

Korean and Japanese manufactures which produce most of their own parts will be sitting pretty when this happens. I wouldn't be surprised to see them offer a few incentives to push those on the edge over since the buying options will now be more limited based on pricing. A redesign of their Santa Cruz with a hybrid motor in the cheaper trim lines and they would greatly increase their sales volume. I would have bought one if they had offered their better motors in the lower model Cruz but to get the better motor you have to basically load out that truck with every package option they had.

I paid about $37K in 2023 MY 24 and I thought it was overpriced by a lot then considering the quality of the inside materials and the dash. Family members that ride in it say....hey it has leather at least and I have to tell them...well not really. As long as no one touches the plastic inside it won't scratch.

Yup, don't get me wrong its a dream of truck, great gas mileage and does everything you need really in a truck but lets be real, I have a 2006 ford ranger XL that has way more durable plastic on the inside and tbh the vinyl or whatever they used back then has held up very good in the last 20 yrs! my dads xlt is all scratched up after just two years... I sold my lariat, almost picked up the awd but couldn't justify 42k for it. its a great truck if you need it. I'll wait it out to see what else comes out or if the redesign is worth it. still love mavs.

No, I doubt the Maverick will be more than a Ranger. The Ranger used to rank highly on "most American Made" charts but has slid off. It's assembled in the USA but the parts come from all over the world. I'm having a hard time determining what percentage of the Ranger's parts come from Canada and Mexico. Maybe around 1/2?

So the Maverick and the Ranger could get closer in price. For that matter the F-150 might look more appealing to some. But again - Ford doesn't "lose" if people decide that the Ranger or an F-150 is a better value and purchase one of those instead. I'm not really considering the Explorer in the equation. I went shopping for a truck. Not an SUV.

You say literally no one is going to buy Maverick Lariat at a higher price. That may be true. Or maybe not - if most other competing trucks also go up in price and so a meaningful price difference remains. And what will the really "made in America (mostly)" truck brands do? Will Honda (#1) look for market share - or look to make a few thousand more $$ profit?

What would really be best is the entire tariff thing gets sorted/negotiated out and by March 1 no longer exists. Which I still believe is likely. As does a good number of Wall Street firms.
