My daughter and I were almost killed on highway because of full on no engine power stall on 2022 Maverick Hybrid Lariat. Had no issues until the Powertrain Software recall was done- unsure if it is related, however here are the details:

Feb 15, 2024 1 time
Feb 20, 2024 1 time
Feb 25 4 times.
Each occurrence, taken to dealership and they are unable to solve issue.
Truck traveling at highway speed then just loses engine power, electrics still work. Have to coast to safety. Place truck in Park. Shut off, then am able to restart engine, with check engine light illuminated, and drive.
. Code is an “unknown” code U1011. Until the same thing happens again. Then happens again. Today it happened 4 times to get ourselves home. Taking back once again to dealership.
Normal mode, w/ or without cruise control/lane assist. All at highway speeds.
To get back today after last engine failure, turned off all “accessory power” including heat.
please advise. Have read many similar issues, but no resolution from Ford. Truck is still under warranty 25k miles. This just started Feb 15, 2024. Terrified to drive. This is a MAJOR safety issue.

A U1011 code means that there is most probably a faulty connection between the engine and the engine management computer. Drive really slowly to the dealer to get the wiring harness fixed, as that's a pretty serious fault. It should be a free fix if you're still under the 5/50 powertrain warranty.

I agree with the Master Blaster. Get the dealer to get this serious issue resolved.

Hey Amanda, you're not alone.

My Maverick is at the dealership now, soon after they "addressed" the recall. Between you and me, it's pretty convincing evidence of causality. I too had no such issues until bringing it in and then it was the next long trip (~1 hour away) when it happened. Over the past week, the dealership has been giving updates, saying they can't seem to replicate the issue. It's looking like they're going to give it back the lemon; no fixes. This pisses me off because we could have died!

For others who haven't experienced this. It is scary fast unexpected deceleration. In my experience, there's not enough time or velocity to move from the fast lane to the slow lane and off to a side. I was thankfully right by a median between the HOV lane and 4 lanes of traffic. But that meant stalling between two lanes that are both going about ~70 mph. Imagine trying to order a taxi to pick you up there. We had to wait for a good friend to drive an hour to pick us up and they were terrified. There wasn't a tow company we could find that would take all the passengers (including a dog) and it was starting to get dark. I hope y'all have road side assistance. We didn't, so we had to pay $400 for the tow!

Perhaps the insurance companies will battle it out with Ford to recoup the cost of towing. But if all this tomfoolery increases the insurance policies for Mavericks, I'm thinking we'll have no choice but to organize a class action lawsuit. Hopefully Ford does the right thing before someone gets killed because of their inadequate recall-solution. I agree with Amanda, this is a major safety issue!

I'm extremely disappointed. This is my first Ford, my first Truck, my first Hybrid. The Maverick is a perfect vehicle for my lifestyle—I was so excited. And if Ford had simply said something like: don't drive far distances until a proper fix is issued, I'd accept it as taking responsibility. But this? This smells like gross negligence, or worse: complete corporate incompetence.

Wow! Too weird!

My Mav has been so perfect. I hate to think how bad things could have been.

They should be able to track it down with having a code that specifies which system(s) are having the issue.

All new Ford's come with 5 year/60,000 mile Roadside Assistance. You only needed to call the number in your owner's manual, on their website or found via the FordPass ap.

This has nothing to do with insurance in regard to rates. If your insurance policy has tow reimbursement then you would get it back. There is no one your insurance needs to battle, they won't even look up Ford's number. If you don't have reimbursement on your insurance policy than you will eat the cost of the tow.

The talk of a Class Action is kind of hilarious. A incredibly rare issue across a product line, that you have experienced once, doesn't even merit a lawyer's time to talk to you.
